arun, 20 Jul 2008is anybody using gps in bangalore with p320, if yes what is... moreDon't know about Bangalore in particular (since I live in Delhi), but 3 great freeware options are Google Maps, Nav4All, and Live Search Mobile (all 3 requiring GPRS to download maps on the fly). Since none of these as Indian companies as such, you'll find their solutions to be hit or miss based on your current navigation needs. To compare them with an Indian map, you can download the trial versions of MapMyIndia or MapKing.

jeff, 20 Jul 2008thank you very much for the information. how do i clear my ... moreYou can clear up the current Cache files by going into the IE options. By default these are stored under "\Windows\Profiles\guest". Then, to store them on the MicroSD card in future, change the registry keys under the "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" folder. These are Cache, Cookies and History. Point them to the new locations on the Storage Card (make sure you check the name of your Card before doing so).

Murali, 19 Jul 2008Hey guys... Answering your question and tanmay's exclaim... moreMurali, when the screen keeps glowing at a low degree, it means that the Backlight has been turned off. To turn the screen completely, and put the phone in Standby mode, use the Power settings - check the option to "Turn off device if not used for" on the Advanced tab and set the desired time. This should greatly help conserve your battery power.

arun, 19 Jul 2008tell me prashanth in ur opinion p320 or p527? price differn... moreHi Arun, I've already mentioned some of the similarities and differences between both the models before. The P320 is smaller and lighter than the P527 and also cheaper by 3-4K (INR). It also comes with updated WM6.1 and other softwares, although these should also become officially available for the P527 (and other ASUS models) soon. The P527 has built-in FM Radio, but I hardly ever use it.

Even then, I prefer the P527 for a couple of reasons (which are imprtant for me personally):

                              1. The Keys: Before this, I have always used phones with non-touch screens and physical numerical keys (the last 2 were the Motorola Razr and the Nokia 9500 Communicator). I tried out the HTC Touch before going in for ASUS, and even though I really liked the WinMo experience, I was missing the tactical feedback in the softkeys. So, the physical keys on the P527 are a great transitional tool for me, and I may even opt for a P320 like model for my next phone.

                              2. The GPS Software: I really like the SatGuide Navigation software that comes packaged with the P527, which separately sells for around 4-5K. Even though there are many other great GPS software solutions available "illegally", I don't like to obtain them that way, since I myself work for a software firm, and believe it is ethically wrong to do so.

I hope that helps - do let me know if you have any other specific question about the phones.

SdwDG, 18 Jul 2008Murali, How did you get it for just 9K? I have been che... moreHey guys...

Answering your question and tanmay's exclaim - I bought it from the guy selling for 11k. It has even reached me now. FYI, there is a offer going on with eBay and ICICI net banking, netbanking customers get 10% cash back, offer ends today. Apart from this, i also had a Rs. 1000/- voucher from eBay as I have been a long standing user with them. So the deal was sweet :)

I had least expected the transistion from WM5 to WM 6.1 to be this challenging. Learning to "poke around" the new interface is definitely slower than my interaction with my earlier phone.

One prob - I have not been able to put the screen to rest - it keeps glowing at a low degree. I've toyed around with the settings, still it keeps glowing when i use the lock screen button. This greatly brings down battery life.
Also, I happen to hear the interference noise during calls. I was not very happy with that.
Lastly, most of the programs - like palringo, skype, fring, skyfire, etc do not work with this phone. Opera 9.5 is amazing, but keeps complaining about the "low memory". And as someone already pointed out - installing apps on the mem card still brought down the mem on the phone.
I'd tried to link it to my laptop through Bluetooth, though I gave up soon - got to try again.

We need to start a forum so that we can best make use this wonderful phone!

                                Cheers guys!
