sandy, 17 Dec 2014Hello, Yesterday I have updated the software of my mobil... moreRecommend you to download Swype keyboard.

Anyway, you may need to go to Settings and change from Google Voice typing or whatever it's called back to Asus keyboard.

Some updates reset that setting.

glenn, 17 Dec 2014guys, a few questions. hope someone can help me. 1. i ju... more1. It should search for it. I made folder Movies and Music and it detected them immediately. The photos folder was created by camera as soon as I set it to save to SD card.

    2. Thanks to Google, format was wiped from KitKat. You need to format to FAT or NTFS in your PC.

    3. For internal contacts (not those on SIM cards) tap on the picture and browse for another one. On SIM contacts you can't set photo.

Anonymous, 17 Dec 2014Hi Tomazz, Is the Kitkat update fine ,are there any major ... moreKitkat is OK but:

        - you need to install FULL 1.18.40.9, then upgrade to 1.18.40.10. Then run 2.19 Kitkat upgrade, and when done, do a full recovery.

        - then upgrade to latest Kitkat release that addresses battery life.

However if you got phone with 1.14 and did OTA to 1.18.40.9, then you have tons of fixes missing, and upgrading to KitKat could cause severe issues.

They can be fixed by loading full 2.19, not FOTA file. But then it is mandatory to do a full recovery to clear out the old junk and cache.

Last but not least - issues can also be caused by crappy apps. But that can happen on any version of Android and on any phone.

When I say full update = 700-800 MB file from Asus website (I have a mirror for it if you can't find it there)

FOTA = the file used for OTA (over the air) updates, that is generally very small and is only incremental update on top of previous updates.

But Asus screwed up OTA updates and doesn't check what was the last one installed, instead sending you the last... missing all the updates in between.

And that's the root cause of so many problems people face.

Saral, 17 Dec 2014hey guys i am using asus zenfone 5 since 3 days and please ... moreOf course you have applied all the full updates (not OTA) which resolve most of the issues you mentioned, and done a full recovery partition restore after the Kitkat update, to remove any leftovers from Jellybean that cause battery drain, blank screen, missing icons, missing or double lock screen and disappearing keyboard?

Json, 17 Dec 2014debp is the 1 trolling. I own the device for 6 months and I... moreWell, if you say so.

I charge it once every 2 days with 10-30% battery left.

Even when using it most of the day, it lasts from morning to evening, about 14-15 hours, before getting to power saver mode.

Given you're all about battery life, I'd recommend you get a Lenovo S860. Screen is reasonable, camera is awful, and so is sound quality and signal, but it comes with decent ARM processor and 4000 mAh battery. Costs 2.5x more than Zenfone 5, but I guess that's worth it.

Now I can't say that Zenfone battery is good. It's not. It's below average. But it's not such a crap like many trollers here are trying to portray it as.

Although I do admit that apps like Facebook Messenger, Skype, and many other spying apps, on top of a few KitKat errors on camera and location module can drastically shorten battery life if used.

Rooting the phone and installing permission manager in super user, to disable access to services that apps should not require, would make a night and day difference if such apps are used.

Json, 17 Dec 2014@debp try owning one instead of reading the manuals and you... moreNot every Lenovo has 4000 mAh battery. And the rest that I happen to have around my drawers have no better battery life from Zen.

Screen isn't the main culprit here. Atom CPU and external graphics processor are.
