Zenfone supports: 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
Obviously if it's uplink it's HSUPA. What it does not support is CDMA, which is one of the slowest 3G standards, that most of the telcos ditched already.
As for frequency, 900/2100 are standard in "GSM countries". However some countries did not auction frequencies and telecoms used loopholes to be able to launch 3G without actually getting approval for it, by reusing the 2G or CDMA 2000 frequencies. This is how Thailand ended up with 850 MHz 3G, which only lately started being migrated to 2100 MHz proper 3G band.
Indian telecoms could be the same, running on non-standard frequencies, or on outdated technologies.
Ask your telecom what exact standard and frequency they are using. Then check if your phone is supposed to support it or not. Note that often the call centres don't have a clue what they are talking about (Asus service centres included) and just say whatever is the easiest to get rid of you.
Maybe someone else in here is using same telecom as well and can advise.

Couldnt understand the wifi part. I'v tried restarting noth the phone n wifi but it didnt work.
About net being slow, i think my phone has a problem. Idk what to do regarding that.
I chked the system update n my version is - ASUS_T00J_WW_user_1.18.40.9_20140827_0215
.
And the phone says an update is available - _1.18.40.10_20140903_9870(20mb)
Should I go for it and press yes?

Speake... moreI have two 3 G sims on ASUS zenfone 5.first sim is with Reliance which gives speed of just 100 kbps at max and second with Tata Docomo which gives speed of 5 Mbps.
My dear indian friends it is problem in your service operator not in zenfone 5.believe me this phone is lot better than many expensive samsung and even apple iphone 5s.Touch & photos are awesome,yes battery back up is low when i use 3G otherwise it is nice during gaming
Tomazz please also comment on axsus aura a1 is it a cheap chinese phone.

Speaker volume is indeed low compared to some other phones, and battery capacity might be on the low side given phone uses power hungry Atom processor and 5" HD screen.
I don't know what green dots you are mentioning about the camera. I have loaded samples of my photos made with STOCK firmware, at www.mega-networks.asia/ZenCam
Please compare with that. And if your phone's pictures are visibly worse, consider contacting Asus.
Do note though that the updates of firmware, 1.15 and 1.16, have brought pretty significant improvements to photo quality. Obviously, it's still a budget 8 megapixel shooter. Which, in perspective, makes much better photos than blurry mess of most 13 megapixel phones twice the price of Asus.
On Wifi - there were optimisations added later, but when adding a new device on my previous Cisco router, I had to reboot the router before it allowed any new device to connect. Don't ask me why, but it went for phones and laptops of a variety of brands. Hence I'd ask you to try that.
My current routers (Netgear and Asus) do not have the same issue, nor does Zyxel's range extender. Looking at logs at that time it was something about DHCP time allocations, where previous devices weren't cleared out and renewed and it tried to issue them same IP however another device already existed with it. That's what Cisco wiz claimed anyway.
As for the speed of the network, I have heard of complaints of very low speed in India and I cannot tell why that is happening. I get around 5-8 mbps down and about 3-4 mbps up speed all the times on 3G H+ (850/2100 MHz). Also on the wifi, the full speed seems to go through, as doing speed test to local Thai server I got 101 mbps down and 32 mbps up.
So there could be something about your phone, or some kind of limits imposed by your operator, or incompatibility of standards... I really can't tell.
But would recommend contacting Asus team and get them to inspect the logs, hopefully finding out the root cause for that.
Also might ask in here as there are many people from India posting, how they overcame this issue.
That is, if you want to still bother with Zenfone.

Hey Tomaz, I got my zenfone yesterday. I was using htc wildfire before.
I found the zenfone unreliable compared to my old htc.
Here are the list of problems that i faced -
1. When I switch on the wifi, it detects the modem but it doesnt connect. It keeps on displaying 'connecting'.
2. In my htc, with the same sim and net pack, my net is pretty fast, but whn i put the sim in zenfone, its extremely so... 90% of the times it doesnt load the web page and if it does, its very slow.
3.My camera quality seems to be poor...i can easily see the green dots even when the pic is snapped in lighted areas.
4. in 53 mins, my battery drained to 78% from 100.
5. The incoming call quality is bad. The person on the other end sounds like is he/she is present inside a hollow room while talking.
6. Ringer volume is low.
feels like I dumped 10k rupees in drain.
Is this a faulty device? Should I go for an exchange with some other device?

Recovery update who has problem update thru ota because rooting
Download the Update-Recovery.bat and the corresponding __recovery.img file, put Update-Recovery.bat' inside the RootZenFoneKitKat folder and replace the recovery.img` in files folder with the one you've downloaded.
Rename it with the one you've downloaded. file to recovery.img
Execute Update-Recovery.bat to flash stock recovery for your ZenFone and apply OTA update again, should fix the OTA problem.

There's a Firmware folder.
I stopped posting with 2.19 + fixes, because 2.20 was beta, and for the now released 2.20 OTA, it is yet another release that had less than a week of beta testing, on a plan of 2-3 weeks, so I want to test it out first before placing it in the server.
Although I've made a few exceptions, normally I only place full firmware files there.
So 2.20 will also be full firmware when posted, not a 100-450 MB FOTA file.
As for you, get 1.18.40.10 and install it. Then get 2.19 and install it, then do OTA to 2.20.
That's the instructions if you're doing it right now.

Same here, There's a 'invalid mmi code' showing everytime I'm using USSD to check for my load balance (using sim1). I already installed the new update that Asus provided and my phone is now running on WW_user_2.20.40.13, but even after updating... the keyboard and USSD code issues are still here.
Any suggestions on how to fix the USSD code issue?

Hey tomazz when I bought my zenfone it had 1.14 firmware version then I manually updated it to full firmware 1.18.9 but when I check for any more updates via ota my phone is showing that it is upto date how to get 1.18.10 and kitkat thanks!!
