This will be sent to you automatically, although you'll also be able to manually download it from Asus site.

However it's out for the Padfone Mini (which is literally identical to ZenFone 4 with Zenfone 6 camera module and larger flash module), so it should be released any moment now.
Last we've heard it's out in beta, but may be a week or 2 away from public release.
That's why 1.18.40 which was first announced, then pulled, then released anyway, was a bit of a surprise.

Either get the updates OTA to the latest, or get 1.17 FULL 700 MB file from Asus site and upgrade firmware with instructions that you can find in this thread.

It brings improved call voice quality, adjustment of the front cam to get rid of purplish tint on some models.
It adds support for Broadcom software for GPS, removes 'Last update' attributes, fixed front camera wrong EV settings, fixed one ringtone which could not be applied earlier, fine tuned the beautification mode for camera.
It added some email functionality, like manual sync, refresh for combined view, and allows to start Omlet Chat straight out of Email (not like I know anyone using Omlet chat), and improved performance of email client, apart from some cosmetic changes.
It added lunar calendar if language is set to Chinese, allows deleting instances in series of events rather than whole series, some layout improvements, and cover image display failure was fixed, when event is linked to gallery folder.
1.18.40 is only available for OTA updates, the full firmware is not available and it is not 100% sure it would be.

Very upset Asus Zenfone 5. This phone is composed of bad system.
Because my phone cannot open the song (I mean sound system is failed) after I used 3 months. How Will I do?

I got the phone yesterday. My camera has a very dim flash which isn't enough to take pictures at night. However turning on the flashlight,keeps the light completely fine. Is urs like this too ??

I say SHOULD, as I have not seen KitKat on Zenfone5 yet, but I've seen other models from Asus on JB and KK, and could compare performance before and after.
Of course KitKat also brings some security upgrades which will break some software that likes to snif around folders of other apps. It will still be able to steal data, but not modify it.
Anyway, file managers would be in trouble, mostly, unless they exploit a KitKat bug which still allows access… until it's patched.
Easiest way to update it is let phone do OTA update, or when available, download it from Asus, and drop into the phone, then wait for the update process to complete.
You can't just download stock KitKat from Google as it does not include drivers for this phone.

EXCELLENT PERFORMER-used a lot of mobiles including s3,mi3,grand etc, believe me i found asus zenfone 5 to be the best among all of them.its camera has some v good features, cam clarity is also worth mentioning.performance is totally lag free,any game runs smoothly,display is awesome, better than all 720p display phones-compared p11 also.Don.t think twice,its the best product in market at such a low price.

AnonD-296175, 03 Sep 2014Which are the hardware changes? I have a Chinese one and it... moreThere are mostly different Wifi and cellular modems built-in. Which means you might end up with a set that does not support your 3G operator, or has limited or different set of Wifi channels.
Kind of like buying a Japanese FM radio receiver. It's all OK for 88-90 MHz stations, but anything from 90-108 MHz you might be out of luck.
The last bit are the certifications, the phones need to get certified to be used in the country by local telecommunications regulator, and manufacturers might have only gotten approval for the officially imported model, but not others.
Therefore it can be different hardware module, but not necessarily causing trouble, and there can be legal challenge of approvals, which limit devices to particular territories.
Loading WW firmware into CN phone with a different type of modem could result in inability to connect to network after update, as cellular board might be unsupported by driver. It is not recommended to do it, but if it works for you, great.
