When manufacturers dip their toes into making compact/semicompact phones, it's always either a flagship or the lowest entry level phones. Then they get disappointed by the sales. There are a lot more people who can afford a proper midrange compact phone than a flagship one. So them not making that is beyond me TBH.

SweeeTy, 15 May 2021Nice phone, at last a compact phone with great specs. But... moreEither that (Zenfone 8 at half) or other manufacturers start to care about "pocketability" again! I hope so, since I have had enough of 6+ inch phones for my front pocket!
I just hope Zen 8 will be at a decent price at some of my carriers!

Nice phone, at last a compact phone with great specs.
But in France 256 GB version is 819 euros, when the S21 has a promotional price since launch at 809 euro.
And as it has also no SD Card, i cannot see a single reason to buy this instead of S21 which is better in very aspect. S21 has same size, much better look, tons of accessories, many service centers, updates, resale value...and brand image.
Just wait until next year and Zenfone 8 will be great at half price.

Zenfone 5z was launched with Android 8 and is running Android 10. Your comment is invalid. Though 3 versions of android update is appreciated, I wish they'll release it for Zenfone Series, if it gets popular.

This configuration can be regarded as the most ideal 5G small screen phone in my mind.

I have owned an asus zenfone 5z for the last 3 years and have been looking to upgrade my phone this year to the zenfone 8 because they ditched the flip which I was really hoping for. The Hardware on my 5z still works as smooth as the day I bought it with the exception being the fingerprint sensor and battery backup. But its actually the software that messed those up in the first place. You will not get on time updates to the latest firmware and when they fix something, they usually break something that was working fine. With that said, the phone still functions like a beast and if I keep using it, it will probably last me another 2 years. Still thinking of buying the zenfone 8

Please enlighten me, how ... moreasus falls behind when it comes to the software side. just to give you an idea of their software support, you only get one major update irregardless of which segment your device falls into. whereas xiaomi, for instance, rolls out at least two major updates to high end/flagship devices and one major update to mid range and low end devices.

this phone sounds dreamy, so long has a flat screen then is nigh on perfect. software updates are not a hot bother as it has a snap cpu so higher probability of a custom rom to keep it uptodate.
