Birlibam is a business card fit for a digital lifestyle

Living a digital-first lifestyle is undeniably great and working in the same manner is somehow ever better. Want to reach someone? Just find the right social network they're on and go from there, call them up, perhaps even make a video conference, or if all else fails, there is always the tried and true email.

But even with all the convenience of the ever-growing social realm, there is and always has been a vital first step in the process, mainly setting up said communication. In many ways this is still a social and even logistic matter rather than a technological one.

This is where the good old business card comes in. As a tool, it is still far from obsolete and definitely necessary in the right kind of social circles and circumstances. Like many traditional solutions that the digital age is forcing out of the picture, it has somehow found a perfect mix between effectiveness, convenience and privacy.

All that being said, it is kind of sad that business cards are stuck in the analog realm, we so seldom use for communicating anymore. Well, Birlibam thinks it doesn’t have to be that way and that is has a solution.

The company's service can be best described as a digital business card with all its qualities and properties translated in a digital manner as well. It goes as follows, you sign up for a personal or Freelance account for free, then use the mobile app on either Android or iOS or the web portal to create your business card. All you info is in the cloud, all your edits automatically committed. Overall, apart from some cool little features, like internationalization and a personal rating system, pretty much identical to any social network currently out there.

However, the area Birlibam promises to shine is precisely the set-up or negotiation part of a communication we previously mentioned. Once you have your digital business card, Birlibam offers a few ways to distribute it and all of them appear to be modeled after traditional business card interactions.

First up, there is the Personal card. It is something that shouldn't be and isn't public, nor can it be re-shared. That would be your personal contacts, meant for a close social circle and nothing else. Beyond that lies your public face. The Freelance option is your own personal calling card. It is meant to go out in the open world, but Birlibam has made it a little bit more sophisticated than simply putting it up on the cloud.

Just like its old-school paper cousin, the card needs to be "handed-out". You can do that on a one-to-one basis all digitally, by choosing another Birlibam user and perhaps inviting said person from your contact to joint the network first. There is also a sort of beaming mode called Public. It mimics circumstances like lectures, public speeches or big meetings, where you would have to hand out cards to many people. With the app, you just enable the sharing mode, set the proximity of distribution based on your location and you're done.

As already mentioned, what you are sending is essentially a link you your dynamic online profile. That being said, Birlibam also offers a fallback for when your and your party are offline. Just exchange the info via a QR code and then have the app do the syncing when you have internet once again.

Last, but not least is Birlibam's Business package. Up until this tier, everything is free. Companies are what the platform aims to capitalize on. Naturally, you get a lot more control and sharing options in this mode. What you can do is set up a group for your entire company, then add every employ, have him or her make a business card and start sending it out. Then, you can monitor and manage the process and better yet, build a centralized business index.

If nothing else, Birlibam definitely has a good angle going and with apps already available for Android and iOS, combined with the free tier model, it might just pick up in the right circles.
