- wipe it with a specific utility;
- install the OS from the accompanying CD, or even better:
- install the newest OS, easily found for free on the Internet.
The bad news is that this procedure does require some expertise. You had better get someone very familiar with BlackBerry devices to do it for you.

I just bought a refurbished 8700c from ebay. I can't get the stupid thing to turn on. Well, it turns on but there's a black and white screen with a circle with a menu in it and a slash through it and a code 543. I can't even use the stupid thing cuz it wont let me. Please help me!
