What won't work is the normal data plans because you have to activate BIS in order for most things to work.

Tin, 04 Apr 2010hi JRF or to anyone who could answer my Q, I'm kinda sti... moreBetween the 3 you mentioned, the main differences are 3G (Bold) and EDGE (8520/8900), screen res (Bold/8900 are better than 8520) GPS (8520 doesn't have it) and the cameras (2mp: 8520/9000 and 3.2mp for the 8900). The 8520 is the only one without a flash. The two curves have more internal memory for apps (256mb vs 128mb) which in reality ends up being about 130mb vs 60mb after the OS fully installs. Those are just specs. Personal use will depend on you, as I have the 8520 with large hands and don't have a hard time but I held the Bold 9000 and it is 100x better to me, for typing. They all offer the same thing so it just comes down to which you prefer more or feel more comfortable with. Email and chat apps are perfect with BIS. So, if money is a factor, get the 8520. If not, hold all 3 and see which feels right.

If you already have a data plan, it won't work except for maybe the internet. BIS is required to fully take advantage of a Blackberry, meaning for push email, social networking and IM apps to fully work. The reason these don't work with normal data plans is because for all of that info to reach your device it needs to be pushed through RIM's servers. For this, BIS is needed.

i am planning on to buy a blackberry as my next phone and as i have never used a blackberry before i was doubtfull about something
as far as i heard that blackberrys require a different plan from the operator specificly for the fone, i just wanted to know if it was true and if so then does that mean a normal sim cannot be used in it. :S

blackberrian, 02 Apr 2010damn..is it true bro??how come in bold suppose to have a 1G... moreSee, the Bold has 1gb of hard drive for pics, vids, and music. The RAM or phone memory is only 128mb. And the OS has most of this taken up. Our Gemini's don't have an internal hard drive for multimedia, only the internal phone memory for apps that is 256mb. The OS takes up almost half. We are left with about 130mb and the 9000 only has about 60mb left.

Hey guyz can anyone help here? I was using my BB bold 9000 then suddenly it stucked what I did I removed the battery and replaced it back but it didn't turn off untill now.
What might be the prob with the device?
I took it to a local store where they have a personnel who deals and rectify probs of various phones and he tolda me he hasn't seen such a thing fun enough it doesn't be detected on the PC software used to trouble shoot phones.
Guys can this be caused by the OS or CPu (processer) ? How much does it cost and where can I buy/download the OS to reinstall or get the processor.

blackberrian, 01 Apr 2010"The Bold 9000 has less available memory than the 8900... moreNope! Something that investigated alot after buying my Gemini was how a Blackberry uses its internal memory. The Application memory for the Bolda 9000 is 128mb vs 256mb of the 8900. The bold has 1gb of hard drive for multimedia only. And like the 8900/8520 are left with 130mb (more or less) after installing the OS, the bold is left with about 60mb. So we have twice as much total app memory. I wish the 1gb was for apps but sadly it isn't.

Just need to make sure you don't use up all of the memory, since all apps and SMS and notes are saved onto the phone memory. As for the trackball, the older ones (white) would always get dirt and stuff and would stick after a while of usage. The newer ones (black, I think they call it "atomic ball") were supposed to lower that problem. I would recommend looking at something with the newer Trackpad.

I personally use Bolt since Opera Mini 5 was too laggy and didn't work with my trackpad. Bolt lets you access the full Facebook site, I can even play vampire wars and stuff! Which is way better than the app. The app itself is only useful for push notifications and quick replies to comments. Sometimes it doesn't work too well, though.
