This is my first Blackberry and I really love this device. I've had different phones (SE, Samsung, Nokia, HTC Hero, LG) with all the different OS, but this one is very fast. Also the screen display is very crisp.

At first it took me some time to find my way in this device, but everything works great. To use BIS is for me only 1,90 euro more than just an internet plan, so that is not to much for push email and the use of ping.

I don't have any difficulties with using the keybord, you just have to get used to it. There are a lot of nice themes available to customize this device. I'm very happy.

red-tailed hawk, 05 Apr 2010Are sure u really use a BB 9700 dude ? Yea I think so. The last time I checked there isn't really other phones on the market anything else similar to Blackberry for me to be confused with. Unless of course if you are referring to the BlackBerry range itself, then yes I am quite sure I paid for a price of a Bold 9700 from the telco.

Blackberry wasnt exactly my first choice either. I knew I needed BIS but I never thought WiFi is not functional on my Blackberry. Nor how weak the GPS is. I can stand under the open sky for 1 hour and I doubt I will ever receive anything. Blackberry maps wasnt preloaded on my phone either.

Blackberry Desktop Manager is not user friendly. Google 'Blackberry Desktop Manager not responding' and you will see the repeated results. I still get that message after trying to sync for the first time.

Although I would say the other features such as the autofocus and how fast it turns on is a good feature but these features hardly made up for all the trouble I had to put up with.

I tried using my friend's Blackberry Bold 9700, inspired by the locusts of people swarming on to the bandwagon of buying a "smartphone" - a "blackberry".

My view with these phones is they have forsaken simplicity and overlooked basic points about phones (e.g. microphones, speakers and simplicity with making alls).

Looking at my friend's phone, I have a number of issues with the bold 9700:

      1) Incredibly tiny qwerty buttons so it's fiddly for people with large hands to type an sms without hitting the adjacent buttons and having to delete. They are so tiny it is I believe a design fault.

      2) Can't fit phone into your pocket without it jutting out so not very mobile.

      3) Incredibly complex in terms of usage, flash applications and downloading. Not worth buying one of these phones if you can't get it in 3 seconds. You will have to keep asking lots of questions and still not understand the logic of it.

      4) Facebook comes as a default application on the menu. Excuse me? That joke of a social networking site?? Since when did that site become so essential to the modern world it comes as standard on a smart phone?? Dumb world.

      5) It takes ages to get anything done on this with time lags and connection delays whenever you want to call a function up.

      6) When you try to make calls, the dialled numbers come up at such a small font size it is unreadable. I'm talking font size 3 or something. It is ridiculous.

      7) You need to pay extra specifically for Blackberry internet service - in addition to your price plan with your mobile network operator.

In truth this phone is a money making machine for blackberry and the mobile network operators and will burn your money.

      8) Long text messages from this phone can appear in a truncated (...) format on other phones. Why does blackberry have to deviate from industry standard practice of 160 characters per SMS??

      9) It needs constant software attention.

      10) The only good thing about it (receiving and writing emails) probably doesn't work out as economical when you think about the time it takes up, the distraction, and the fact that if you are a businessman/woman you will probably have a laptop or something nearby anyway. In an emergency, people will CALL you and not send an email.

Rilakuma, 04 Apr 2010I had Bold 9700 for 2 days and I am disliking it. Everybod... moreYep, worst choices are made when you don't investigate properly meaning when you buy something you know nothing about. Everyone knows (if not, they ask) that Blackberry needs BIS. And its not free for other phones because you need data plans no matter which phone you get. Android, WinMo, Symbian and Apple OS's need data plans to work. BIS is a data plan exclusively for Blackberry. So its really just a matter of choice of which plan you prefer. Never buy something you know nothing about, it'll just make you feel bad.

BB, 04 Apr 2010Dear,,, i really appreciate your concern & advise...:) ... moreIf you are using BES then it could mean that the device will have difficulties connecting, for security reasons. BES is usually for companies that hand Blackberry devices to their employees and have a ton of security settings made by the company itself.
For now, I guess check your browser settings, open the browser and press menu. Select Options>Browser config. Make sure it says Browser: Internet Browser and Browser Identification: Blackberry. Save any changes. Then open General settings and set Default Browser to Internet Browser. That's really all. If BES is blocking certain sites or the internet, then you might have to just leave it like that.

I had Bold 9700 for 2 days and I am disliking it. Everybody says its the best phone they ever had but I beg to differ.

                            1. The trackpad is hard to use, its either too sensitive or not sensitive at all. Take your pick. The buttons are small making typing very hard even for my girly fingers.

                            2. The wifi is so hard to use. I connected to the wifi in my home but I cant even surf the net. I can ping using the blackberry, which shows the wifi in my house is working and the browser is just crappy.

                            3. BIS is really a waste of money. What do you do when you want Google Maps? BIS. What do you want to do when you want to use MSN Live Messenger? BIS. Practically everything is BIS. Seriously I dont want to pay extra to service providers to get something I can get for free on other phones.

                            4. The GPS. What is the point of having a GPS when there isnt any software for blackberry out there? Dear RIM, there are users around the world besides USA, right now there is only GARMIN which os available for US users only.

                            5. The BlackBerry Manager gets hanged everything I try to sync.

                            6. The bluetooth is equally rubbish. I can use my blakcberry to send files to my computer but I cannot receive files, although I have tried all the methods, pairing it, listening to it, and everything. Must I use the USB cable everything I want to send a little thing?

Getting a blackberry is the worst choice I have ever made.

BB, 04 Apr 2010thnx dear i contacted my service again and they informed... moreThat is very strange. Everyone has told me that in Manage Connections>Status should say that BIS is active. Do you revieve Blackberry Messenger chats or emails? If you do then I guess it does work like that in your country. Strange, though.

As for the logo disappearing, from what I've read is that it could either be low coverage in your area (carrier doesn't give good signal or you are in a place were lots of buildings and walls block your signal) or a buggy OS. Sometimes people say to update your device for better signal or battery life. If you know how, give it a try. If you don't but want to, check out crackberry.com and search for how to update/install a new OS. I don't really know how :)

If none of these are the problem then it could be a faulty radio receptor, meaning it doesn't detect the signal like it should.

If you are within the warranty limit for exchanging devices, ask if they let you try out a new phone so that you can see if you have a faulty device. Or just try and update to a newer OS? Good luck!
