Almost all the problems with the 9780 have to do with the chronic instability of OS 6, and the erratic functioning of the BB App World (for avid users of third party apps). RIM has yet to use a single software update to version 6.0 six months after its release on BB Torch. And there is no sign of it coming in the near future.

Those who are content using the phone's very basic native apps should have no problems. But the moment you step into the App World, you do so at your own risk.

I've spent a packet buying some of the best business apps in various categories. The installation process is a minefield. The much dreaded 'Uncaught exceptions' errors are frequent. Not only do purchased apps regularly vanish from the list of aps, the phone reboots on its own (the LED lights up, the screen goes white), and keeps rebooting, compelling a battery pull since the start up process cannot be completed. Nothing less than a total data wipe with the help of 'Java loader' and a clean reinstall of the OS restores normalcy.

That the problem is the weak and brittle OS was confirmed when i replaced my month-old 9780 with a brand new one. I'd barely loaded 30-40 of the 60 odd apps from the BB World when the screen went white as an app was about to complete the installation process. Sure enough the phone went on a self reboot, and kept rebooting till the battery was removed, and the OS reinstalled.

Support personnel warn that installation of third party apps can cause problems. If such is the case, RIM should openly tell customers that the risk is entirely theirs. But then the company has no business running its own App World, and earning money by expecting customers to buy its products, many of which are worth the expense, and better than any RIM offering.

For a company which often touts the stability of its platform, especially to corporates, it is surprising how RIM can release a premium phone without thoroughly checking the robustness of its OS. Lack of attention to minor details is why it's losing market share to the the Apple iPhone, both in US and elsewhere. I have used Nokia's E-series phones for 4-5 years, some of whom had issues. Installation of third party software was never among them.

Heed the warning RIM! Shape up or ship out! Take lessons from Nokia's decline and eroding market share. If you want to compete with Apple and Google, emulate their standards of excellence. Your platform has some admirable qualities for hardcore business users. Don't lose out on your core following.

I'll be a specific as possible:

SCREEN is quite briliant and has a good enough resolution.

SMS i use the smsCrunch app and it looks really good, as though I am using an Iphone sms app on a blackberry.

                            SPEED OF INTERNET:
W/ Wifi it's actualyl fantastic! And the browser is a a breeze!

Witout Wifi, that depends on your carrier but with the specs, internet with or without wifi should be GOOD or near GREAT.

BATTERY LIFE is brilliant! I am a heavy user esp with twitter, bbm, texting and facebook and my batt does last two days!

KEYBOARD is soft, yet concise so no worries with typing there. It's real smooth with the typing.

PROCESSING SPPED is brilliant! The OS6 is quite good and the phone itself handles it more than good enough as compared to the 9700 running the OS 6. If you want it to be faster, i suggest buying the RAM Booster from Blackberry Appworld, and this phone is a sure runner!

Camera is good on bright situations. On lowlights, it's ok and gets better with the flash. not exactly high end but does take a decent photo.

My verdict: GREAT PHONE! does what it claims to be!
The only thing i'd probably change about it is to maybe increase it's processing speed. While the speed of this phone is GOOD already, i wish they pushed it further.
