I upgarded to 9790 from 9700, found the 9790 only marginally performs better overall.
Good points:
1. Nicer qwerty keypad with slightly softer "feel" to the buttons when pressed. Letters on them are marginally bigger so easier on the eye.
2. Touchscreen for faster scrolling / selection etc...
3. Faster processor and 5mp camera
Bad points:
1. 9790 on OS7 works well but the extremely poor battery time compared to 9700 makes it impractical for everyday moderate use, even with wifi & geo tag turned off & brigtness set to minimum.
2. Two metal contacts can be seen on the side of the battery once the back is removed. These 2 contacts connect to the inside of the back cover once fitted back on. What this is I don't know (aerial?) but during on line browsing mode (prolong continuos use), the back cover gets very warm.
3. Middle of the phone where the Navigation pad with the 2 buttons on either side are, the black plastic phone body that surrounds this area "sqeaks" everytime the BB or the back/cancel button is pressed, its sooo annoying. Don't know why these 4 primary buttons are now made smaller than 9700 as they can now only be pressed with fingernail rather than the full finger on the 9700.
4. Backcover has "peach skin" like finish which makes it to smooth to hold securely and with its already thin profile and smooth edges, easy to drop & damage.
Agree with critics comments, upgrade to 9790 if you're a die hard BB fan, otherwise the gain from from this handset is minimal.
I have send back my new 9790 and gone back to 9700, feels far more robust & solid in the hand.

hello guys out there. gsmarena said the NFC on this fone is carrier dependent. what does that mean? or is the global (unlock)edition of it come with NFC?

Im using this device. The problem is with its touch screen which all of a sudden becomes unresponsive and then i have to take out the battery and start again. Im not happy with it.

very very good phone. i love to text with bold 9790. the keypad is best ever, I used up to now. i dont make that much call, but surf a lot using wifi and cell network. i can use this phone atleast 2 days with a full charged battery.

Is it possible to use Skype on the BOLD9790 ???
All smartphones that i had (Samsung Nokia) they have this feature. but i sold my Bolsd 9700 because it doesn't has this option.

Dis phone is far better than most smartphones RIMS ever produced. 9790 is lighter, faster, batteries lasts more than any bb n above all, it's very simpe yet sleek. I'll recommend dis to every1. D only is hid dis phone is dat it's got no JAVA

compared to the battery hungry 9900 how is the battery for the 9790??? lately RIM has only made one flop with OS7 devices, they chow battery like hell, u gardly last a day with just average use.

9900 is a more superior phone, however it seems to drain the battery at a much faster rate than 9790 reading the opinios here.
9900 also is bigger & heavier, getting on the borderline of being too big.
Theres a new BB operting system "10" out in Qtr 2/3 which would hopefully get closer to the brilliant andriod / iphone op system. Weather these phones would be compatable, no one knows yet, but the main prob I see with the current Bold handsets & the OS7 is that they drain the battery far too quickly, even with wi fi, gps turned off and brightness set to lowest 30 setting.

Hey guys I have found a solution for the battery life !!!
There's a new battery that have been made for the 9790 !
Its on ebay ! Its 2750 mAH !!
Which is twice the battery life !!
Its a golden battery on ebay you'll see :)
Ps: I've used the battery and its unbelievable ! It has more battery life than the 9780 !
