Art, 15 Jan 2015Hi, Just bought the Passport today and one thing I dont li... moreCongratulations. this is the first time I've ever heard this complaint. Every electronic screen I have had reveals some impossibly big interfaces and impossibly small ones on the same device, and the onboard magnifier applications seem unuseably clumsy. The fact is phones are small, and there doesn't seem A lot that can be done with the basic laws of nature. One friend I have, with perfect eyesight, carries around with him a trusty 4 inch magnifying for such eventualities.
    Regards,
    Geoff Adams.--

              Hi,
Just bought the Passport today and one thing I dont like right away is small size of Icons and the text underneath. No way to modify it. I wear glasses but even then the icons are way too small not to mention their text. Just can't read it. I read the same comments somewhere else. Blackberry folks: you make this phone for business people who are often over 50 or so. The Icons have to be adjustable to even twice the size so one can clearly see it and the text needs to be way bigger too . Please . Otherwise so far after 5 hours of use I love this phone

My only concern is the issue with the maps, and not being able to use some apps that require Google Maps. In today´s world Blackberry can´t be divorced from Google.

I've had the Passport for a month and am very pleased with it. The sound quality is excellent-much better than I've had on other phones. The battery life is above-average; I regularly get two days' use out of a single charge. The Hub is an excellent way of responding to all of your messages and notifications in one place. If a message comes through while I'm in an app, I see a preview at the top of the screen. I can either tap the preview to get to the message to deal with it right away or swipe up to the right while in the app to get to my messages. As soon as I'm done with the message, I just swipe left and tap the open app window and I'm right back to where I was in the app when the message came in. I've gotten a lot better at responding to messages that way. So far I've been able to get all the apps I regularly use either through BlackBerry World or Android apps from the Amazon store. I haven't yet tried getting Android apps from Google Play via Snap but I haven't needed to yet. The bigger screen has been very good for reading text, surfing the net and using maps. The phone is bigger, that's the trade off for the wider screen, but I still have no trouble carrying it around in my back pocket or holding it. You do have to type two-handed but again that's no big deal. The physical keyboard is great. You don't have a virtual keyboard taking up half the screen. The word prediction seems to learn as I use it. I have it set up to use both English and French and that's working well. I use the keyboard as a track pad about half the time, depending on the web page or app.
This phone looks and feels like a premium device-excellent fit and finish. You don't need a special BlackBerry data plan (BIS?) for the Passport or other BlackBerry 10 devices. Unfortunately a lot of sales people don't seem to know this. You can just use your regular data plan.

I purchased BB Passport in November,2014 & in December 2014 after one month device suddenly switched off because of software issue.
Would like to suggest, think before to purchase this device. I verified from BlackBerry third party service center ( as in India no BB owned support centers available) that this issue persists in many devices till date.
Also BlackBerry has no ethical customer support center for Indian operation. You can call on these service center number 18004253720 or 18004253720 & you will be lucky if any attend your call. - Worse customer support for Indian operation.

This device is failed to perform against BlackBerry claimed promotional agenda.

To keep the argument going, I want to say why I think the Passport is a progressive device. Having upgraded from a Z30, and using the Passport for 3 months now, these are the basic improvements.
                                        1) I can email and text much easier by having a physical and electronic augmentation allows me to see many typing characters at the same time.
2)The wide screen lets me manage my inbox more easily by showing things like 'delete'and 'file' on the right. Also, the screensize frees up congestion of the presentation of webpages so they're easier to read, etcetera.
                                        3) Using the phone horizontally makes scrolling a real doddle. No more does my fingers have to hide part of what I'm scrolling. I can truly zoom through things.
                                        4) The battery life is phenomenal, especially if you use the phone with the idea of conserving power such as switching off directly afer use.
Even though the novelty has died for me after 3 months use, with a rational mind I still say it's a gamechanger in concept. True technological progress moves in small steps, I believe, not ballyhoo and hype.
