Sorry also missed out that the 8120 has a 3.5mm sterio headset jack whereas the 8100 Pearl does not.

For all the people wanting to buy this phone and deciding between whether to get this or the Blackberry 8100 Pearl, the only differences I can see between the two is an improved camera (a few other improvments as well as the obvious increase in MP), some sort of Bluetooth voicedialing (on the 8120), and the introduction of Wifi on the 8120. There is also price with the 8100 pearl being the cheaper of the two, so if you don't have a need for any of the above, save your money and get the 8100.

If I missed anything please let me know as I would be interested to know.

Hey guys, I noticed that you have on this site that all the blackberrys with cameras say it has video as well. RIM has not released video capture on ANY of their devices yet. However the new ones do have video playback.

Well RIM do have a 3G phone in Australia. It's a Vodafone branded 8707v and gggoddddd is it a SH*T phone. Until RIM get their 3G offering right, don't waste your time and money on their 3G foray.

RIM have a lot more important things to fix before bringing more phones into the mix.
(E.g. Their whole support and software upgrade experience - the blind leading the blind.)

After my roller coaster ride on the 8707's i switched to the Pearl and with a few 1hour upgrades I'm pretty happy with the unit - NO THANKS TO VODAFONE.

Well i own my own buisness and i was wondering how many contacts i can store in this phone? I dont like blue i think its an ugly colour. Does it have downloadable themes? I want a Paris Hilton theme too because she is my idol... Not sure if that is possible? Anyway what do you think is better this phone or the Q9?

            Much love
            xx

for the person who said australia is only running off the 2100 for 3g is only half right... the also use the 850 3g. i have a pearl 8100 and the 3g hsdpa is the only downfall of the phone, its a must especially for a pda/smart phone in the market these days

Correct about Australia using the 2100 MHz band for 3G. AS for it not being ecnomically viable to make multiregion phones; how come other manufactures do it. Sounds like a cop-out to me. 3G and HSDPA is a mandatory requirement if BlackBerry wants to remain as the preferred business phone. So RIM bring on the 8900.

it's not just the wi-fi that's upgraded from the original. the camera now has video recording function, the bluetooth supports A2DP stereo profile, spellcheck and the memory card is in a slot on the side not underneath the battery. O2 have this handset exclusively and I have had the chance to play with it, it's a fantastic device and I will be getting my hands on one to replace me existing pearl.

i say this as a rim supporter. i have been using the pearl for what seems like for ever now (since it launched over xmas i think) and as much as i love the key pad and email, there arent enough upgrades to make this switch worth it. wifi is nice and all but id rarely use it. and video recording is nice, along with making folders on my desktop, but it isnt a worth while upgrade to my pearl. rumors about the 9100 keep me tantalized that maybe a 3g berry will come bc as much as i love the email reliability, some entertainment would be awsome. oh, 1 last thing, would it kill rim to put a better screen on 1 of these. my old w810 provided more entertainment then the 8120. but hey, i like rim for being all business. guess ill have to wait.

get your facts right before posting. Australia doesnt use 800 for its 3g. it uses 850/2100.

3G specs are very different between continents!!! North America uses 850/1900 meanwhile europe/asia use 2100 and australia/japan use 800. Therefore, it is a waste of money to make it a worldwide 3G at this moment!!

When is RIM going to wake up and realise that business users want 3G & HSDPA???

Cameras and video are nice to have options but 3G is mandatory.

RIM needs to focus on what the end-user needs and not on the network providers marketting strategy. Otherwise the competition will.
