Just picked this up at costco for 29.99 with special member discount. I must say this is an awesome rock solid phone. Big upgrade from my last. Wifi on this is amazing for web surfing and instant messaging. My only complaint is the t-mobile browser is rubbish. Lot's of lag when you try to do anything, Opera mini is a great app to install when you get the phone. Also the speaker for the phone is ridiculously loud. As well as the ring tone, I can hear it over the air compressor at my work. Pick it up, if you have the chance its a rock solid phone.

I've had this phone since 19 November, and have used Blackberrys for a while.

My conclusion is it's a really nice phone, a solid Blackberry, but it needs a software update to address the slow BB browser. It's odd because surfing on Opera Mini on this phone is good, and only the built-in browser seems affected.

It is small enough (when closed) and light enough that you won't even feel it when it's in your pocket.

The keyboard is bigger than the ones on the other Pearls, which is a personal preference. As for me, I like it because it's easier to type.

The screen is excellent and very bright even under direct sunlight, not something you can say for all phones.

The sound is loud and clear, for phone use as well as speakerphone use.

You can watch videos full screen on this, but you have to transfer the file across using the Media Manager on Blackberry Desktop Manager. It rotates your converted file properly for full screen 240X320 viewing.

If this is your first Blackberry, then everything about it will be awkward. I wouldn't recommend it as your first Blackberry, you should maybe start out with one of the Curves which has been around long enough for it to be very stable, hardware and firmware wise.

Also, as with all the newer Blackberrys, the first thing you should do is upgrade the OS. The one that ship with the phone is known to be slow and may even contribute to problems such as overheating battery as mentioned in one of the reviews below. It is similar with the Storm, which is another Blackberry first-timers have been having problems with, where the problems are resolved after the firmware update. Even the Bold was widely slated when it first came out, but after OS 190, you hear less and less complaints.

As for me, I find the Flip 8220 excellent in all respects, bar the built-in browser which I feel can be corrected via an OS upgrade.

This is my first blackberry. I ordered this phone because I liked the fact that it was small and had a good design. I was also swayed by comments I had heard about how good Blackberries were. When I first got this phone out of the box however, I was disapointed by the overall feel of the unit. The upper screen section is well built & feels heavy whereas the lower section is much lighter & feels cheap and nasty. This gives the phone an imbalanced feel in your hand even with the battery installed. The features generally are well laid out & connecting the phone to my e-mail accounts was very easy. The truetype keyboard is also very easy & quick to get the hang of. This phone is not all good however! After about 2 days of use & after being left on standby overnight I went to pick up the phone only to find that it was RED HOT!. Since then the problem has not reoccured but the battery life has been seriously impaired (lasting less than 48hours on standby). There are also some other reliability issues like having to hard reset the phone(by removing the battery) at regular intervals due to the software locking up. I am aware that this may just be a fault with this particular phone but my confidence in it has taken a major hit (I need reliability over any other feature). I will be returning this one to my service provider and moving back to the always reliable motorola!.

ravi, 14 Nov 2008will this phone work in indiaYes it is a world phone and will work in India. Go to www.rogers.com/roaming for the roaming charges of using your phone in India unless you get it unlocked and use a SIM card from there but your number will not be the same that way.

I am a blackberry user and i work for a business telecommunications company. I have held one of these phones and they have to be the most akward blackberrys available if your used to the old type youll find the keys to just be far to big to the point it feals like your useing your childs toy phone also the classic roller ball is tucked into the handset making it a pain in the *** to use! And if its the case you juat want small blackberry this phone is just ever so slightly smaller and to be honest thicker than the pearl! If you want one by all means get one but i'll be sticking with my pearl cant beat them!
