Sam, 21 Sep 2012Playbook battery back up is given as 10 hours of talk time.... moreIf you want to make a phone call with your playbook there is an app called comwave ephone. It's free in the app world works great! The only thing is when you set up account they ask you to choose a city and okc wasn't listed. I had to choose dallas tex. And they gave me a dallas phone number. But it still works to make any calls across the us free

      RIM has finally released BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1.0.1032. This update, which is available for the Wi-Fi only BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, offers a range of new capabilities and security features for consumers, enterprises and developers.

      With PlayBook OS 2.1, customers will now have the ability to:

      Secure all data on the tablet; the enterprise-grade encryption can now be extended to secure personal data stored on the device
      Text via SMS using the new version of BlackBerry Bridge (version 2.1) customers can send a text from their PlayBook through their BlackBerry smartphone; the new version of Bridge is available on BlackBerry App World
      Use the Messages, Contacts and Calendar apps in Portrait mode;
      “Print” documents from a PC to a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet using the Print To Go app even if the PC and tablet are connected to different networks;

      Additionally, PlayBook OS 2.1 offers new features that simplify the deployment of the tablets in the enterprise with BlackBerry Mobile Fusion. These include over-the-air enrollment to the BlackBerry Mobile Fusion server, support for ActiveSync certificate-based authentication, and additional IT Policy controls

      For developers (and consumers), the In–App Payment system now extends to Android applications.

      The update is now available as a free over-the-air download. Customers will automatically get a notification of the update on their PlayBook, or they can tap the gear icon (in top right corner) and check for the new version under “Software Updates”.

        Alright folks, I've had this tablet for some time now even through two OS updates. The real game changer was when the 2.0 release was pushed to market adding all of the missing elements that made the PlayBook "complete" if you didn't carry a BlackBerry smartphone.

        The original model which I own is now feeling a bit long in the tooth but still remains to be my favorite PIM device. It does have some interesting amount of horsepower under the hood for such a small tablet. Media features were well thought out when you notice the forward facing stereo speakers. That's only half of it, recording video with the stereo microphones with full 1080p video is amazing and I have been rather impressed.

        There are a couple of issues which do bother me despite the increased backing of this platform and it's branding. The PlayBook goes largely ignored due to it mainly being a BlackBerry product alone with RIM taking a beating in PR and more people wanting the iPad or other device mainly because of the BlackBerry brand itself.

        It's a beast under the hood as said before and newer models with faster processors and LTE network connectivity.

        The major problem remains with app support. It has gotten better in the last six months or so but still no official Twitter, Facebook, Skype, Google Maps, and many other staples that the PlayBook is sorely missing.

        Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel if RIM makes BlackBerry 10 really shine.

        For basic browsing on the web, the PlayBook is great with full HTML 5 support and Flash as well. A large 64GB model can be found rather cheaply in comparison to other tablets in the 7" class and up.

        It's no iPad, but if simple web browsing and email is your cup of tea, you have a real bargain here with great build quality and a nice user experience.

            its really affordable price meets great performance. For add information, its works internet browser via wifi and bluetooth tethering, you can use smart phone with remote sim access bluetooth profile as internet router. I use nokia e90 as bluetooth router and its work well.

                Please run away from this piece of bullshit..it will ask you for an upgrade and after, the camera will display an error message that cant be corrected. The charger will definately go bad...and you wont get a good replacement charger for it..Blackberry appears not to have a solution to this camera issue..i have checked lots of sites...even did a security wipe...no solution...am even looking for someone to buy it for half the price, i cant one...pls runaway for your life...
