Litvak, 04 Nov 2008So disappointing... I hoped this could become a competition... moreOMG, Camera on the iPhone "just a bit worse", iPhone 2MP, Storm 3.15MP.
"Iphone has a bigger and better screen", ok, the iPhones screen is 0.25 inches bigger, that good yes? However, do the math: iPhone 320 x 480 pixels, Storm 360 x 480 pixels. Thats 153600 pixels to 172800 pixels. That means that the Storm has 19200 more pixels and in a smaller space. What does this mean?
It means that the resolution is stunning.

Martin, 06 Nov 2008Also, lots of comments are about the WIFI feature being rem... moreThe Storm has been developed solely for Vodafone in direct competition with the iphone, which i understand is only available with o2. The reason the storm has not been wifi enabled is due to the fact that Vodafone, as a network, do not support wifi, they would rather promote Vodafone live as it earns them more money! So yes, you are quite correct, wifi was never removed as it was never an option in the first place.

Also, lots of comments are about the WIFI feature being removed. This does not appear to be the case, it is more that the feature was not included in the design.
WIFI is only in one other Blackberry (the Bold).
My guess is the Bold would have been designed after the Storm as it is basically an upgrade on existing phones/themes, whereas the Storm project started some 18 months back.
If you want WIFI, great, this is not the phone for you. If you, like most people, dont care, then this is a superb phone. Having played with one for a couple of days I can tell you it is a stunning phone.
So much better than my 8310 that I love.
Well done Blackberry/Vodafone for designing such a stunning phone.

Also, dont forget that the push email service would not work over WIFI anyway, so WIFI would only bypass the whole point of a Blackberry (to get emails).

how is wifi on a phone compared to wheels on a car at all? wifi would be closer compared to automatic headlights.
if you have a blackberry or any pda for that matter, why would you not get the unlimited data package?? you're only going to use your email and internet in a starbucks?
nitpick about everything you want, but wifi is an unnecessary feature. period.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Storm 9500 and the Storm 9530. When comparing the specifications stated on this website, they appear to be identical!

So disappointing... I hoped this could become a competition to HTC Touch HD or Samsung OMNIA, or atleast iPhone 3G and XPERIA X1... but no WiFi, no huge screen not the best camera... un whitch way this shuld become some ones choice? Iphone has a bigger and better screen and built in memory... the camera is just a bit worse, XPERIA has a qwerty... too bad it doest have 3,5mm jack, as this one does... OMNIA has better camera, and more storege... HTC Touch HD MUCH bigger screen with MUCH better resolution... and the camera is better...
And RAM of 128... come on...

Thanks Mark for you advice, but pls dont shout at us we are only asking questions and are concerned.. just seems a shame to develop a great phone like this and remove 1 good feature from it. Its like making a new car and taken the wheels off it :P

Okay, get over wifi !!! it is a blackberry. pay for the unlimited blackberry service and you won't need to worry about a wifi connection. Damn some of you people are making this more complicated than it really is. Screw wifi. if you like wifi so much get one of those mini laptops that have a 10" screen. This device is going to be revolutionary. just how apple did with the I-phone.I like blackberry because of it's OS and BIS. no fuss no muss. The average business person could care less about wifi. the casual blackberry user doesn't give a crap about wifi. ONCE AGAIN THIS PHONE HAS NO WIFI MOVE ON !!!! LOOK AT THE OTHER EXCEPTION FEATURES!!!
Anyway i will be getting a storm on both Verizon and Vodafone Australia.... hahaha 2 storms for me !!!!

The reason this handset and the 9500 has no wifi is because when it was designed with vodafone they wanted wifi remove because 9 million was spent upgrading the network in the UK. They want users on the network not on their own routers. I work in tech for voda and I told this during a training session for the storm.

superknowledge, 29 Oct 2008wi-fi is important especially when you're doing internation... moreas you say "every phone" has wi-fi , vodafone looks forward to new solutions and options in mobile comunications. In a couple of months all new phone's will loose the wi-fi compatibility because providers can give their customers much more.
The blackberry Storm 9530 will be a exelent phone , and trust me , you wont miss the wi-fi on this mobile "computer" phone.
