its tough, but not for long.
the rubber is starting to peel off the case and itrs only 2024.
the speaker hole membrane will get puncured becasue its same size as micro usb charge slot and when u plug it in and out 100 times per day in a car with touch (u have no time to look at it 100 times per day while driving), u eventualy plug it wrong hole. so it loses water immersion protection.
screen starts not working wen too much rain pills are on and fuck up touch senses. pro tip: dont let rain get in the speaker hole u damaged with charger cable.
its 2024 and battery does not hold too well. 100 to 15 in about 4 to 6 hours. needs constant charging. interface is laggy, mandatory androind 12 update makes it worse. have to wait for keyboard to popup for typing. have to wait for everything.
summary: tough but slow and breakable.
should you buy. out of all shit they make nowadays, this is least shitty thing that will last.
but u have to change after 2 years. im forced to use it and its slow and laggy.

This phone was a stop-gap solution and it has performed sufficiently in a tough work environment. No problems with this phone, it is slow however you get what you pay.

1 week of battery time (no game, only some calls and some prof. messages).
rugged, well adapted for my usage in rough outdoors and workshop conditions.

I made a mistake buying a cat phone , I got suckered into believing it was a decent phone , ive had the junk s42 and the junk s61 the s61 is supposed to be water proof all I did was wash it in the sink and it destroyed it , then the s42 suddenly would not work either , both cat phones robbed me of 1000$ and neither one lasted even 1 year , absolute garbage , whoever reads this heed my warning cat phones are absolute garbage and not worth 5 cents STAY FARRRR AWAY FROM CAT PHONES THE MANUFACTURER IS BULLIT PHONES , THEY WILL ANOY THE SHIT OUT OF YOU AND WILL FAIL BEFORE THE WARRANTY IS UP AND BULLIT PHONES WONT DO A THING FOR YOU , if you waste your money on a bullit/cat phone I guarantee you will be sorry

About Cat phones,i use from 2 year now,the S52,and i could say this phones are well build from Bullit Group, and i bought around 400 $,which also i have a replacement on 2021 duo to ghost touch.About your S42 model,if for freezes you understood, very slow ,it's because this model use low end chipset. But on the rugged market,Cat is a leader with their devices.

T-Mobile branded S42 but won't connect with T-Mobile sim that works in my S61, and the APN settings are set to same as in the S61. S42 also constantly freezes up and power button won't work to restart or power off, have to hold power & volume up then restarts but gets stuck in bootloop, holding both again for long time and restarts again but takes 20 minutes to get to lock screen. I've had every Cat phone and every one had problems, minor and major. The $1100. S61 has a laser measure feature and it worked when phone was powered on for first time then after the factory installed apps are updated the laser stops coming on, Cats solution, send it to authorized repair facility on my dime and then they will say fix quote or dispose of it, It also has horrible reception, it is more like a $150. cheap China phone. If Cat/Bullet can't make a so called rugged phone that will work without problems by now, they need to stop making phones, I am glad I went with the cheapest out of the five newest, S42-S42H/S52/S62-62 Pro, The sS62-62 Pro have screen problems early and the S52 is just a overpriced basic phone. To sum it up, If you really want a Cat phone, don't spend full price for a new one, get used for as cheap as possible. I will never be wasting another penny on a Cat/Bullet phone. I got my Sonim XP8 at same time as the S61 when they came out in 2018, the XP8 has far far better reception, front sterio speakers that have the most bass of any Phone I've owned or seen in person, it also is half the price, it has no Thermal cam but I never use the one on my S60 or S61, the air quality/temp feature is way off and the laser measure never worked, so they are way way overpriced junk that get terrible reception.

Decent phone. As in, you can make calls from it, and it has a very good battery life. It can also take a beating, is somewhat waterproof and you can take pictures reminding you of how awesome camera phones were in 2009.
As a smartphone, it's somewhat mediocre, but if you don't install a shitload of apps and use a web browser it'll get things done. And this phone is about you getting things done. It's a tool. And a good one at that.
Go play with a Samsung if you want a new toy.

use the CAT S42 now for 5 years and it runs and runs and runs. The battery is great, with normal phone and text use and a little surfing on the net, it lasts 3 days.
Every now and then it hangs up and a restart is necessary, but that's ok it happend not so often. It's waterproof and an outdoor phone that's why I bought it and so far I haven't been disappointed

one of rhe nicest phones I have. Really water proof, feels rugged. bright screen, loud enough speaker. good grip. chunky, bur that is a statement. good solid buttons at the side and handy fast access button in in a stylish copper color. Quite satisfied. thw only negative is thatbthere is a bug when streaming Amazon music over bluetooth. all other apps like Spotify stream well.
