FCC confirms the Samsung Galaxy A01 is headed to the US

Samsung has really been expanding the Galaxy A family lately if not necessarily in the most straight-forward and easy to understand way. The Galaxy A01, quietly announced last month, is at least doubly confusing. Not only are we still lacking specifics on certain aspects of its internals, like the chipset, but that naming convention seems really odd.

There is still little official word on when and where the phone will be made available too. Thanks to a couple of FCC pages, we now at least have a hint as to the "where" part of that question as the Galaxy A01 is headed to the US.

Both the SM-A015V and SM-A015T1 model numbers can be fond in the certification authority's database. Those should be the Version version and one made for T-Mobile's prepaid Metro PCS brand, respectively. The former also has a custom firmware already in development, so we can probably expect an imminent release.

We do, somewhat, understand the rather low profile the Galaxy A01 is keeping, since it will likely be one of the cheapest phones in Samsung's portfolio. Specs-wise, it appears to even be bested by the Galaxy M10, as well as the recent Galaxy A10e. The latter probably being its closest sibling and already rocking a sub-$100 price tab. So, it's likely the Galaxy A01 will cost even less than those two.

Some of its specs highlights include a 5.7-inch 720p+ Infinity-V LCD, 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, dual-SIM support, an unnamed chipset with octa-core CPU, a 13MP, plus 2MP main camera setup, FM radio and 3,000 mAh battery.
