Galaxy S8 and S8+ in the US will have absolutely no carrier logos

Vlad, 20 April 2017

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are undoubtedly beautiful devices. On the front, the Infinity Display makes either one look incredibly futuristic, and the minimal bezels have ensured that there wasn't room for any logos.

The situation is slightly different on the back. Depending on which country you're in, you might see the Samsung logo there by itself, or an added mention of the device's name in the lower half of the rear glass. The US, for example, will have the latter.

But even in the US, one huge, glaring, eye-straining thing will be missing from both the S8 and S8+: any trace of a carrier logo. Indeed, even AT&T and Verizon, the last holdouts in this respect among the 'big four', have finally decided not to taint the phones' design with their stamps anymore. Sprint and T-Mobile had already gone that route for past Samsung flagships.

We've certainly come a long way - from Verizon plastering not one, but two logos on Android devices by Samsung (its own and one for 4G LTE, in case you've repressed those memories) - to none. It's definitely a welcome change of heart from America's biggest carriers.

Yet they shouldn't stop here. When you boot up your S8 or S8+, you'll see a splash screen with your carrier's logo. And carrier bloatware apps are still a thing, unfortunately. Who knows, maybe in a few years Samsung will grow confident enough to put an end to those too. We can hope.
