George Zhao to step down as Honor CEO
George Zhao is resigning from his position as Honor CEO, effective immediately. This news was first reported by Chinese media, which suggested health concerns prompted his decision to leave. According to Daily Economic News, the board of directors acknowledged his decision.
Later, an official statement was published, confirming the move. The new Chief Executive Officer will be Li Jian, a former Huawei executive with over 20 years of experience in the mobile communications sector.
The brief statement from CLS China did not provide any details regarding Zhao's decision or status. The new CEO began his career at Huawei in 2001, steadily advancing through positions to become a Member of the Supervisory Board before departing in 2020 to join Honor in 2021.
Li Jian previously served as Vice Chairman, Director, and President of the Human Resources Department prior to his promotion to CEO. He will need to navigate the challenging landscape of joint-stock management as the company is poised to launch its IPO in the near future.
This article was updated to reflect the official company statement.

What's so surprising? They're all ex-Huawei employees. Honor was a sub-brand of Huawei before branching off and becoming independent.
