Google announces surprise Pixel 9 unveiling event for August 13
Google usually holds its annual Pixel launch event in October, but this year things are going to be very different. The company has just announced a surprise Pixel event for August 13, which is around two months earlier than usual.
Google hasn't specifically mentioned any devices in it, but the invite says: "You're invited to an in-person Made by Google event where we'll showcase the best of Google AI, Android software and the Pixel portfolio of devices".
That's pretty vague and could just mean the company wants to "showcase" the existing, already official devices, but here's the twist - there's a keynote at 10 AM on that day. There's absolutely no point in having a keynote address for devices that are already launched, is there?
If that was still not confirmation enough, here's a video that's running as a teaser for the event over at the Google Store:
Did you catch that "IX"? It was very obvious and that's the Roman numeral for 9. Oh, and the URL of the page itself contains the "google_pixel_9_pro" string. So, we expect the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and maybe even the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to be made official. Additionally, the Pixel Watch 3 could debut as well.
An earlier event could be part of a strategy by Google to prevent (at least) some leaks, since over the past few years it's suffered a lot from that, with basically every single aspect of every single device being leaked many weeks in advance.
