Google introduces visual snapshot, Google Now cards accessible from Assistant

Enrique, 17 July 2018

Google just announced that it will roll out a new visual feed of your day within Google Assistant and is calling it a ‘visual snapshot’. This new visual overview isn’t a new concept – we’ve been seeing it since Google Now and this Google Feed has been moving around ever since, yet to find a permanent home.

When Google Assistant was first announced, there was a clear division between Google Now and Google Assistant functions. With this feature announced, it looks like the former Google Now has finally made full circle becoming integrated into Google Assistant.

The feature is rolling out over the next week, according to Google, and will show you a feed of what your day is going to look like. This includes traffic, upcoming calendar events, bill notifications, package alerts, and travel information like flights, hotel and restaurant reservations.

Google recently also announced that it would be able to show boarding passes within Google Pay. The next step in our eyes would be for Google Assistant to have the ability to show you a boarding pass saved to Google Pay.

The visual snapshot will add more features over time, the first in line of which is to bring an overview of notes and lists from Google Keep, Any.do, Bring!, Todoist, “and others”. There’ll also be a new discovery section to find things to do nearby, parking reminders, and personalized recommendations for podcasts and music.
