Google issues statement about RAM management issues on the Pixel 3

Ricky, 05 November 2018

Two of the hottest Android smartphones right now are the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, however there have been multiple reports of RAM management issues along the lines of apps being released from RAM prematurely. One specific case given by Android Central describes Spotify music playing in the background unexpectedly stops when taking a couple of photos in the camera.

In response to these RAM management issues, Google has provided 9to5Google with an update “in the coming weeks” that will address the memory issues.

We’re rolling out a software update in the coming weeks to keep background apps from being prematurely closed in certain situations.

Google confirmed that the fix will not be issues with November’s security patch so our guess is it will come with the December OTA patch.

Are you a Pixel 3 or 3 XL user experiencing this issue? Tell us what other situation you’ve noticed apps closing prematurely.

A good camera & sound quality is not enough for a high-end device. Ram & Ram Management is worst in this price phone, my mid-range device is better than this crab pixel 3 that can hold up to 5 high graphics games in the background.

Are you kidding? UFS 2.1 in Pixel and any 845 Android smartphone is way faster than NVMe storage

How on earth does this issue not get picked up during pre launch testing. We saw enough in the wild to know they did test them. I bet they hand them to several members of staff, that must be minimal user types. Ridiculous.
