Sorry, but Samsung with the S23 ultra is a whole generation ahead of everyone else in the smartphone market, and using TSMC manufactured processers is what helped them with a MASSIVE win this year, and that includes the whole s23 line-up.

In order for ANY company to compete with them right now, they have to let TSMC take over and deal with the processors for them even if its costs them quite a bit. You're getting what you pay for and if that means increasing the price of the phones, then so be it as long as its reasonable. This is why Apple was always one step ahead of Android even with a smaller battery capacity in their phones, regardless if their OS was lightweight and useless.

MARTIN-M, 13 Mar 2023Please when will pixel include inbuilt app locker on their ... moreYou don't need an app locker. Just create a second account or guesr account in your Pixel phone and no one will have access to any of your data. That guest account can have his/her own wallpaper, own set of apps, own layout and customizations, etc. much like in Windows PC's. The other person will log in to the guest account (or the second account) by switching to that user account while you, the phone owner will log in to the main or admin account.

Now if you really want an app locker (popular with Xiaomi phones because MIUI doesn't support stock Android's feature for multi user support), you can download one from Google Playstore. There's plenty to choose from there.

Please when will pixel include inbuilt app locker on their phone,,.. Very important future..

Hazza88, 13 Mar 2023The battery endurance between the Pixel 7 Pro and S23 ultra... moreTSMC is miles ahead no doubt, but don't forget it is also 5nm vs 4nm. Pixel 8 with Tensor G3 suppose to be 3nm which will be closer to 8 Gen 2.

The battery endurance between the Pixel 7 Pro and S23 ultra is miles apart.

Google should use TSMC manufacturered SOC as the difference is huge in terms of battery life

the phone should support memory card, because google drive capacity is very small.

I wish Pixel phones had micro SD storage expansion. But then again, it's wishful thinking. Apple is making a killing on iCloud services and getting huge profit from highway robbery priced higher internal storage options in iPhones, as if the base model is not overpriced already.

Google saw it as an excellent business model and so decided Nexus and Pixel phones not to have any micro SD card expansion ever. Samsung used to be the exception offering micro SD storage in its previous flagship phones up to the 2020 released S20 ultra. However, since 2021, the S21, S22 and all the latest 2023 S23 series phones no longer have micro sd storage expansion. Greed, greed and more greed.

I used to criticize Pixels for their lack of micro SD storage expansion, headphone jacks, etc. but since all major phone manufacturers have gone that way, it has become an exercise in futility to threaten manufacturers that no one will buy their phones because of lack of headphone jack or micro SD storage expansion.

Only worldwide regulation will stop this greedy anti-consumer practice. The EU has forced Apple to use type C so users won't have to buy Apple's overpriced lightning charging cables so I'm hopeful EU will lead the way also to enforce mandatory micro SD storage expansion and battery replacement services, as well as minimum 4 years of software updates for all smartphones, not the measly 2 years that most phone makers offer.

Why remove micro sd expansion when it helps reduce accelerated wear and tear on a phones's internal storage? Only one answer - CORPORATE GREED. Huge corporations like Apple, Google and Samsung want you to pay SO MUCH MORE for additional internal storage that you can NEVER reuse or transfer when you decide to change or upgrade to a newer phone.

These greedy corporations also have vested interests in making you pay monthly, FOREVER for cloud storage for even more profit. Providing micro SD expansion means losing those additional HUGE profit sources.

512GB and 1TB high speed UHSII V60 micro SD cards are very cheap nowadays and they are more than fast enough for 4K 60fps video recording. GoPro action cameras and high end mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras use them!) Phones with higher internal storage options will never sell if they had micro SD storage expansion.

Anonymous, 11 Mar 2023https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/fix-pixel-3-qusb_bulk_ci... moreWRONG CONCLUSION.
Flash memory or ANY STORAGE for that matter has limited write/erase cycles REGARDLESS OF BRAND. The Pixel 3 is a very old phone (almost 5 years old), which only has 64GB base internal storage. If you keep on downloading torrents or taking 4K videos and filling up that limited 64GB internal storage and deleting files frequently because storage is full, you are essentially promoting RAPID and EXTREMELY DAMAGING wear and tear on the internal storage. It is one of the benefits of a phone with micro sd storage. You store media files on micro sd card and write/erase as much as you want because you can always replace the micro SD when it wears out due to frequent write/erase.

As with internal storage, micro SD cards that have a lot MORE storage space (512GB above) last WAY MUCH longer than those with very little storage space (32GB-64GB), simply because you don't need to write/erase as frequently because bigger storage space takes longer to fill up.

If a phone doesn't have micro SD storage expansion, like the Pixel phones, ALWAYS buy one with at least 256GB internal storage. It's the ideal storage option for 99% of users who want their Pixel phones to last long. For the 1% who frequently download torrents/movies or take 4K videos frequently or store lots of big movie files on their phone, 512GB internal storage is the recommended minimum for reduced wear on phone storage and better longevity.

Pixel 3 and other pixels brick randomly:
"This issue happened to me a couple days ago, and I came across this thread. I happen to work at Google, so I spoke to some Pixel engineers.

They ran some debugging tool and one of them has actually seen this exact issue before. It's a failure in the flash memory chip. They sent a device just like mine to Micron, a couple months ago, and the result was that the UFS is failing to initialise, likely due to having exhausted its natural lifetime of write cycles. The phone gets stuck in QDL mode because it's waiting for a broken chip to give a "wake" signal that will never come. So they can't even firehose it out if they wanted because the device simply cannot read anymore.

Only Micron would have the tools to pull the data, but even if they did, it's encrypted with the PIN number PLUS the secret key in the Titan security chip, the latter of which can't be extracted. So RIP in peace.

Phone flash memory chips are cheap because manufacturers expect you to replace device every 2-3 years and only lightly use storage. A high quality microSD card has much better write endurance. Alternatively, the less storage you use, the more free space is available to take hits and avoid total catastrophic failure. All drives actually hide some space from you in anticipation of blocks wearing out (kind of like EV batteries) - but setting a limit for yourself will give you a bigger runway, and also force you to improve backup discipline."

                          Google uses inferior hardware.

Just a user, 24 Feb 2023I rarely make any reviews of such products, but I’ve decide... moreI rarely comment but since we both upgraded from the same phone, I thought why not share my opinion.

In one month of owning the Pixel the only problems encountered were:
                            - when I open the app drawer, sometimes the screen brightness is dimmed for some reason, but at a second try it goes back to normal;
                            - one time I was waiting for a call, the caller told me when I met him that my phone was closed when he tried to call me, but I was next to it, so I guess my phone lost signal for a moment, I called the company (Digi) and solved the issue. That happened one time in a month and I can tell that because if someone calls me and my phone is closed, I get a notification via SMS.
That's about it, the phone at this price range is a beast!

The software issues that you are dealing are literally non existent in my phone, maybe you should send a feedback since the team at Google actually reads them, not like other companies. Also, my P20 Pro is as fast as day one (I compared screen recordings from 5 years ago and today and there is no difference), I can still go back to it anytime, but if I were to compare it to my Pixel, it's clearly a bit slower (for example Pixel launches the camera app faster) so I don't know how yours is slow now.

The thing I love about Google phones is the simplicity of the line, one pro, one standard and one budget one, unlike the most producers, that have a lot of confusing models in the same performance range. Makes it easy to choose, plus cameras that are top and of course, them owning the OS also. What has prevented me from buying one, and this is the only minus, is the fact that they have not officially launched it everywhere. In my country it is not officially launched, although in Europe, and that comes with a few setbacks. But in the second it will be officially released, I'll buy one right away. Tested Pixel 7 for a few days and I like everything about it. As long as they keep the simple line, they'll be in the top preferences.
One big hit they could do also is reduce the price a little, as they try to do battle with the older bigger boys and, for now, at comparable prices, people will mostly go for Samsung or Iphone

Stop being a cheapskate and get a brand new one, sealed, and bought from reputable or authorized sellers. You probably got a fake or defective Pixel given your complaints or your comments are complete fabrication because you never owned a Pixel phone in the first place.

Either way, please don't compare a Pixel phone with any Poco phone from Xiaomi. They're night and day. The Xiaomi MIUI software is horrendous compared to Pixel's vanilla android, not to mention Xiaomi's monthly security updates don't exist at all. Xiaomi updates security patches in Poco phones like once every 5 - 6 months even for their more expensive Poco phones. Then when a Xiaomi phone approaches its second year from date of official release, Xiaomi pushes a MIUI or security update that mysteriously causes your Xiaomi phone to charge so very slow , the battery to drain very fast, or the fingerprint scanner to suddenly fail to function. I should know because I've owned several Xiaomi phones in the past , the last and final nail on the coffin being the Poco F2 Pro. No, don't promote your Xiaomi Poco phone here. It's worse than the Pixel phone in terms of software support and reliability, not to mention security.
