User opinions and reviews

Update: I have had other issue with the phone that I spoke about earlier. This morning, plugged in USB C to charge. Phone freezes, no response from any app. Pull down drawer works. Have to restart. It's a lousy phone for a so-called flagship. All updates installed.

Most of the comments on here are from people who don't even own the phone and regurgitate whatever they have read about or based on past history. A lot of others keep promoting phones that are not even supported in US. I get that there are international users here and respect their opinions but a lot of the Chinese OEMs they recommend might have better specs on paper but have a pretty poor record of software support and for US users don't optimize or can't for cellular bands and have zero warranty or other support.

That all being said the Pixel 7 Pro is a great phone. In a market when most high end smart phones start at $1200, $1100 the Pixel 7 Pro starts at $900. There have been two major sales since release which made it $749. For US market Google is offering high trade in value for certain phones. For a phone that will get updates before any other Android OEM for at least 5 years and be optimized due to having Google's own software the price is great. I think people need to keep in mind the cost.

From a hardware perspective I would like to know what features are missing in the P7P? Maybe there are some parts that are not the very latest iteration but does that affect the user experience? Fingerprint scanner is optical but it works fast and reliable. Screen has LTPO AMOLED at up to 120hz. The screen is calibrated perfectly and looks great. Cameras are excellent and optical zoom on telephoto lens is a great feature. Battery life is amazing for Android phone. Speakers are really good. Design is completely original and you know it is a Google phone just by it's design and not a copy of an Apple phone. Build quality is excellent and as good as any Flagship.

Then after you get the hardware out of the way there is the software. Let's be honest the best hardware paired with crappy software ruins the hardware. Poor update support and lack of optimization further erodes the phone experience. Add bloatware or layers on top of Android that add redundant features also mar the experience.

Pixel software when it is done right is simply the best Android experience possible. Google can be it's worst enemy here by providing buggy software like what happened with the Pixel 6 and previous generations. BUT, as the phone is right now it is solid and not buggy. The smoothness in transitions and animations is simply the best available right now. Custom software from Google coupled with the best AI around makes the phone completely unique and it has useful features not offered by ANY other company regardless of platform or OEM.

Google has mostly nailed the Pixel 7 Pro with pretty close to perfect user experience in almost every category and user experience. It will continue to improve with more optimization and added features. All of the complaints are nitpicking or unrealistic given the cost of the device and software support.

The Pixel 7 Pro is not perfect. We would all like the very latest and greatest hardware in every part of the phone. We all want the fastest SOC possible. We all want the most premium hardware and build quality possible. The Pixel 7 Pro misses the mark on these attributes BUT in the sum of its parts the P7P still delivers a premium experience with no loss of functionality or smoothness in any area despite what some consider it's hardware limitations. It does all of this at $200-$300 less than the competition and has been on sale to widen that gap even further. Improvements can be made yet at the same time the P7P for it's cost is about the very best phone you can buy right now. Period.

All of the Google haters have their reasons and some have business agenda's. But this latest Pixel is not the same as previous iterations. It is a inflection point and pivotal moment where if Google can continue to offer stable software and more features and in future iterations improve the hardware further while still undercutting the competition then the sky is the limit. We will see if Google can stay true to the course and not repeat it's past mistakes. Only time will tell but at least Google seems more focused than ever on making the best phone ever. Competition is good for all of us and only having Samsung or Apple to choose from in the high end space is bad for consumers. Having another serious competitor is a great thing for us all.

Lastly the Tensor G2 might not be the fastest SOC in the world but it is part of a wider vision. If Google can now start offering longer terms of software support in the form of 5 years of OS updates and 7 years of security updates then they will be on the level with the likes of Apple. Having their own chips will allow them at least this possibility that was never available on a Snapdragon chipset. Yes the Tensor G2 uses older cortex cores and they are not the highest clocks. This means better optimization and less throttling. Google said they are not trying to produce the fastest chip. Maybe Samsung foundry is not the best but Google has to start somewhere. Using Samsung offers a better value and allows Google more flexibility on price. Using Samsung might also push Samsung to do better and eventually delivery a product at least equivalent to TSMC and again the more competition in the SOC space the better.

Google is not perfect, the P7P is not perfect but no phone is. Google is finally on the right path to making true Flagship phone's.

GanyuxShenhe, 25 Dec 2022Honestly I'm glad to see that people are having issues... moreBut as others have stated I don't have any issues. I've had my 7 Pro for 2 months now and it's been flawless. I had the 6 Pro before it and it was terrible so yes I am defending Google because they have fixed many things. Nothing wrong liking a brand or phone, is there a law against it?? Stop complaining about people who like or defends brands, there's nothing wrong with it we can like what we want

I just realized, the Tensor chips use the Cortex-X1 as the main big cores, even with the Tensor G2. That's slower than what the 8G1/+ has (X2), and identical to the 888+. Only upgrade to the G2 was a bump from the A76 to the A78.

Considering SD888 already had an A78 to begin with, you're basically paying for last year's performance (well, alongside the benefit of Google's TPU). Not saying it ain't fast enough, just something to keep in mind.

Erkan, 29 Dec 2022Terrible battery life, Changed from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9... moreBatterylife out of the box can be pretty mediocre.
I suggest you let the phone learn you usage pattern and adjust itself. My S21 was awful in the start but got better and better during a week or two..

              Great camera, mediocre battery life
More flaws that I can remember right now.
Selfie camera blurry on Google meet, but works on Signal and WhatsApp.
(Sliding) photo sequences on websites work vertically but not horizontally. Screen not always responsive, freezes sometimes, then have to load website again. All OS updates installed.
Personally, except for the camera, I would go back to ONE Plus

                Terrible battery life,
Changed from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro which is over 2 years old. Xiaomi out preforms and outlasts the Pixel 7 pro. Xiaomi is also half the price

Honestly I'm glad to see that people are having issues. This is what you get for constantly defending Google with their practices of delivering hardware, jumping in other people's throat to say "I don't have this issue" and ironically you now having the issue.

                            KARMA

Oh please make a proper dual sim and not one nano and one esim. You can't download esims in Europe, so inconvenient. Don't understand why Google has esims in their phones they would sell more with regular.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2022Not really. I can tell you why... Android is a pig. Better than a fruit, at least pigs are smart. Fruits only exist to be eaten by pigs.

Biggest piece of rubbish I have ever had the misfortune of owning. Spend more time trying to swipe and losing information. I don't care how good the camera is as I'd rather something that is user friendly and this isn't it. Can't wait to trade in for something reputable and reliable. 8 weeks of complete frustration.
