Anonymous, 05 Jan 2023Face ID is just a marketing/commercial name for face unlock... moreHonor magic3 and 4 Pro have a biometric sensor for secure face unlock and I'm sure the pixel 4 series had a biometrics sensor too... which now they don't. Samsung used to have an iris scanner sensor which they scrapped for the standard face unlock.

Good few Huawei phones through the years that have a biometric ToF 3d IF sensor including the 40 series and the current mate 50 series (not sure about the p50). Might be some other companies that have had actual biometric unlock aswell this is top of my head phones.

These use actual scanning of the face to unlock (iPhone like) not scanning of a photo and using the selfie cam to compare your face to it which is why they won't work in the dark if the screen isn't bright enough (like other android brands).

So in the beginning of this week I received my new Google pixel 7 Pro. Now after careful thinking and my experience with google p7p for couple days, I have decided to return back the phone. Here is my review of the phone:
      1. Android system is slow, some apps crashes and a system error message appears saying ‘not responding’ and closes the app.
      2. The back of the phone warms up very quickly when using the phone and becomes quite hot suddenly whilst being on the phone for few minutes.
      3. Charging the phone takes far too long.
      4. Google Pay doesn’t support a lot of banks.
      5. When taking pictures the auto zoom toogle dial keeps appearing for no reason when selecting any zoom controls.
      6. At times the fingerprint sensor doesn’t scan the fingerprint.
      7. Battery life ain’t that great. Doesn’t last the whole day.
      8. The security settings on android and phone needs better improvements.

The only thing I was impressed with google p7p is the editing tool, the magic eraser.

            Kanjut, 27 Sep 2022Dynamic Island in behind😆

Google banned unlimited photo cloud from Pixel 7, so you need an older phone model to get more than 15GB storage, or pay like crazy if you take many photos and want to use the cloud - I typically use at least 30GB/year, so that's 300GB storage over 10 years if photo sizes don't increase with better camera technology.

So I've basically stopped using google photo cloud, by creating 2 new accounts annually just as an "easy" backup. This is a pitty, so Samsung or iPhone seems a better choice as the unlimited photo cloud was one of the perks of the Pixel phones.

BEWARE google is actively blocking 5G, VoLTE and VoWiFi features in many counties. Check before you buy the phone.

I've had this phone since October. Got it because my Huawei p30 pro had a broken screen and I just couldn't handle it anymore. So I got the pixel 7 pro. At first it was weird to get used to... Missed some features the Huawei had but that's fine whatever.. then come the month of December. Holy fuckmonkeyballs this thing has turned into the worst pile of garbage I've ever had and I really mean that. Everything with this phones functionality has turned into a circus. Apps don't work. Multiple app windows open that are unusable and cannot be cleared either. Won't stop adding a credit card number to nearly every login ID for everything that needs a login ID. Hides pictures from my gallery unless I'm charging my phone. The list goes on and on and on its insane.. it's so extreme that it's actually become kind of entertaining, like watching someone parallel park for the first time in a manual, on a hill kind of funny. Yes I've factory reset it. Yes it's completely up to date. Yes I've nearly thrown it into a cave because it pisses me off that much.
One nice thing I will say about this thing though is I've noticed myself not on my phone as much anymore.

Anonymous, 04 Jan 2023It's the same case with Samsung so what's the dif... moreFace ID is just a marketing/commercial name for face unlocking, every smartphone can unlock with face (if they're equiped of the requirements of course, but iirc even Xiaomi did it with Redmi Note 10 Pro, and Redmi is the "low cost" smartphone of Xiaomi), so basically you need a programme and a selfie camera, mainly, but you can add some other captors to get better result and make it work with some security fullfilment, like not being able to unlock with a picture of you on another smartphone, so far Android don't include that, unlike Apple you have choice to choose one way or another, but the "main" one would be fingerprint (as "quick unlock"), but maybe for other models they will include that
On Pixel they even warn you that it's not the most securised way, but as I said it's optional and it fit my utilities, I don't think I'm famous enough to get found or photographied without me knowing it and getting trapped in some plot to unlock my phone with the face unlock :)

Worst phone i have ever had by a country mile. Not customizable, navigation is confusing, menus look rubbish and not clear. To make the face id work you need to press your finger after which totally defeats the object of having face id. The google search bar you can't get rid of and the whole top quarter of home page can not be changed,

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2022Mile behind EMUI are you kidding me?? Chinese software ne e... moreFor your information, EMUI 12 has swipe-down notifications. They work just like iPhones and compared to version 9.1, 10, and 11, version 12 has NAILED the animation. It rivals the iPhone in smoothness now. Maybe it has gotten even better with version 13, but I don't know, I haven't tried it.

Regarding the Pixel, It's now been two months and my experience has been average, edging on disappointing.
Snapchat has two bugs that are recurring. The camera will sometimes not activate, and the app will start lagging severely over time.
More issues appear in the shape of offensively basic settings. The auto-brightness button is REALLY slow to kick in, and will sometimes sear my eyes with 97% brightness at night time. I have to turn the phone on and off before it realizes how dark it is and adjusts the brightness down. The industry standard is to have perfect auto-brightness, and the fact that I have to coax the phone to follow suit is baffling. More basic settings; Battery settings. It gets beat by iOS and EMUI and resets every time you charge up your phone. The only saving grace is that it's partly saved by a comprehensive log in the Digital Well-Being settings.

A personal beef I have with the phone is the camera app. It's VERY well-behaved, but I occasionally shoot in very challenging conditions where manual control is required. The phone has no Pro mode and fewer features than the iPhone. (I recently fiddled a little with an iPhone 14 Pro's camera, the feature set has improved massively since 2020, back when I had an iPhone.) It means that taking video out of a wet window is a no-no. Very disappointing when EVERY other Android phone has a focus slider that addresses these issues.

Regarding these special Pixel features, they hardly work. Live Caption is always a second or two behind. Dictation is good, however.

I feel like Google made a good phone. But it needs work. Hopefully, Google fixes the bugs, adds more HELPFUL features, unlocks the display refresh rate (It's stuck at 120 and 60 currently), and maybe adds a Pro camera mode to their app.
