The secret is to very lightly rest the finger on the reader and not press down. Then the fingerprint reader works with the lightest touch.

The fingerprint reader is awful, most of the time it just doesn't work for me. Another con is battery life, it just drains too quickly. I was a Pixel fan before, but probably this will be my last one.

First impressions for the Pixel 7a are rather poor, beyond a capable setup wizard. Comparing to my RedMi 11, which should be hugely overshadowed based on price, I'm still waiting for something positive. The Pixel 7a case feels cheap (and sweaty), the phone gets really hot dong mundane install and setup tasks and the screen seems no better than the RedMi when reading mail, Messenger, etc. The form factor is slightly smaller, and I'm finding I miss the real estate.

On the plus side, it looks like I have eSim support.

            We'll see...

But I realize that we dont have 5G in my loc which the phone was seeking. So I change the network to LTE and the signal runs smoothly now. It can save the battery too if you are aware.

This phone is good. But the standby time is really bad though it has a 4k+ battery. Did they fix this in update?

For those who have trouble with the fingerprint scanner, try using the tip of your finger, not the middle.

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2023I got mine yesterday and I have to say I regret buying it. ... moreI agree with most of your points except about the battery which has a poor life span.
                            Turning off completely:
By default, holding the Power button down brings up Google Assistant.
Go to Settings - Apps and tap on 'Assistant'
Scroll down to 'Hold Power for your Assistant' and tap on it.
                            Choose 'Power Menu' and exit.
Now holding down the Power button for 2 seconds brings up a Power menu where you can Shut the phone off.

I got mine yesterday and I have to say I regret buying it. Samsung phones are actually better when it comes to usability.
For some reason I can't add transport pass to wallet app, 5G network is more like 3G or 4G, I can't connect to internet outside sometimes.

                              Pros: Battery is pretty good
Great photo quality and audio quality
                              No bloatwares like samsung phones

                              Cons: Poor network connection
                              internet speed is rather slow.
YouTube viewing isn't as smooth as should be.
Can't seem to be able to turn it off manually.

bardacol, 13 Aug 2023Can someone explain why battery life is so pathetic?I found this on another site:
Tensor’s problems appear to be poor thermal management and its choice of modem. The thermal management leads to the phone losing battery faster during hot weather, a problem as we head into increasingly warmer summers. The older choice of modem leads to the phone struggling to keep a connection to cell towers, draining more battery as a result. Add that to the power-hungry choice of cores, the bright and smooth displays, and 5G connectivity, and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Can someone explain why battery life is so pathetic?

dingdongitsyourphone, 10 Aug 2023why are you complaining if there are no bugsI wasn't complaining, I was just curious as to why it took so long. I also own a Poco F5 and a similar update was completed in around 10 minutes compared to over an hour on the Pixel 7a. I put it down to the F5 having the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chip which is like a Ferrari compared to the mediocre rebadged Exynos chip used in this phone which runs slower than a horse and cart.

No Wi-Fi hotspot capability. This may disappoint some people, as you can do this with a 3a.
