I had a 6a and now the 8a, and the difference is worth it.
Better camera, better battery, better screen, the fingerprint works much better, also facial unlocking which the 6a didn't have.
And I like the design of the 8a better, but that's very personal.

I'm concerned about slow charging and noise when zooming in or so-so selfies.

I live in the south of Spain and in summer it does tend to heat up if you record video for a while.
The sound of the speakers is perfect for me.
The performance for my use is outstanding, very fluid when opening any application, but I don't play games.

They did something similar with the Pixel 5a, except that with that phone there was a 2 year extended repair program, whereas the Pixel 8's issues apparently are more severe and get a 3 year extended repair program.

Or on Amazon Spain it is at €399, which is also a very good price.
If you see the 8 at a similar price to the 8a, definitely buy the 8.
I have the 8a and it is a very good phone.

A few years ago I've had the Pixel 6a and 7a. I was pleasantly surprised with their decent cameras, decent performance, decent speakers and commendable battery life.
I currently have the Xiaomi 13T. It's showing it's age and i'm thinking of going back to a Pixel.
For more better camera system (for everyday photos - city or on holiday), better performance (faster & more snappier), better speakers (a bit more clarity and loudness) slightly better display (better HBM/peak brightness, more sharper) & glass protection should i go for the Pixel 8a or upgrade straight to a Pixel 8?

Or should I go for the Pixel 8 instead?

I'm back, and I finally got this phone! I've had it for about 3 weeks and here are a few notes:
Pros:
Bay Blue is so freaking pretty
Everything feels smooth, both the back of the phone and the software
Charging speeds are ok
Coming from an LG V40 ThinQ, cameras are awesome
Pixel Android is awesome
Flashlight is so bright like wow
Clear calling feature DEFINITELY works, I was honestly so surprised
Some things have Google's playful touch, like the charging sound/animation, or when the front camera appears to get larger when in use
Battery life is perfect, im usually at 20% by the end of the day
Screen is bright
Cons:
when playing a game or wireless charging, it gets pretty warm
There was a glitch where notifications kept unblocking themselves but it seems it has gone away
Kinda silly, but there's no battery low sound, not even a pop up unless you enable it
More of an android thing, why can I only set the phone on silent through the volume slider? I'm so used to it being in the quick settings.
Fingerprint scanner works wonderfully, I'd say 9/10 times it works. The con here is that it's optical. The Pixel 9's ultrasonic scanner is so fast, I hope the 9a has it.
People complain about the bezels around this phone, but ever since I got it I haven't noticed it at all. My V40 had a slightly bigger screen but I got used to this one really quick. If you want a good phone for a midrange price, this is the one. Sure you could get a Galaxy A25 or something like that, but it might feel glitchy and sluggish. I'd say that Google does really well for it's A series. And if you'd like to save a bit more money, get the 7a. It's basically the same thing for cheaper and not as rounded at the 8a.
