Google Pixels running Oreo getting September security update wrongly labeled as Nougat

Himanshu, 13 September 2017

Google has started pushing out a new update to its Pixel series smartphones, but there's an issue with it. Several users that have received the update say the update is labeled as Android Nougat (version 7.1.2), while their units are already running the latest Oreo OS.

So does that mean it's a downgrade OTA? Well, it certainly appears so, but actually isn't. A quick restart of the device, which installs the update, results in just Android security level being bumped to September - OS remains at Oreo.

So it's safe to say that the update only contains the latest security security patch, just that it's mistakenly labeled as Android Nougat.

Google cannot even handle updates for its own phone. It abandoned everything before Pixel but still cannot get updates ontime.

Haha quite funny...

I can already image how bad it would be
