Google to unveil Amazon Echo competitor at Google I/O, reports say

Today Google I/O kicks off. Google puts on a presentation of the past and future projects for the entire Google suite of products and services. One of the projects that Google’s been closely working on is apparently a direct competitor to Amazon’s rather successful smart device called the Echo, which is essentially a voice-activated information hub offering things like sports scores and real-time weather.

The New York Times reports that Google will introduce such a device in San Francisco on Wednesday at the stage of Google I/O. The same report says this product should be called Google Home and will be launched to the public in the fall of this year. We can expect such a product from Google to use Google Now’s service with some general enhancements and 3rd party integration as well as seamless interaction with Google’s Nest product line.

It’d be interesting to see what kind of smart voice assistant Google will come up with after the success of its mobile information and voice assistant, Google Now. What do you think?
