Huawei Mate 70 is a 100% Made in China smartphone

Huawei launched the Mate 70 series two weeks ago, and today, the company CEO shared their components are all made in China. Richard Yu revealed that in front of an audience at the Baoan Middle School in Shenzhen, China.

The executive announced that Huawei has achieved 100% domestic production of chips, which is a testament to the true autonomy of the semiconductor industry in China.

There has been just a handful of teardown videos online, and they emphasize the new Kirin 9020 chipset, manufactured by SMIC – a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer working closely with Huawei.

TSMC recently announced it discovered a third-party partner provided chipsets for Huawei, which falls under US sanctions. The chips were used for data servers and AI; we have also seen Korean-made memory in Mate 60 phones.

Still it remains highly unlikely to see the Mate 70 phones make it outside China. The company planned an event for Thursday, December 12, which will feature the global debut of only the Mate X6 foldable smartphone.
