mno, 08 Jun 2025How do you like low light camera results with Skyline? For the moment is inconsistent, sometimes it amazes me, sometimes the hdr is so aggressive that when zooming past 100% there are a tone of artifacts noticeble sometimes even when not at 100% there are this pixels/artifacts to be seen. HDR definetly needs some adjustments.

I bought mine two days ago to replace my aging pixel 7. Battery life is not the best as its losing upto 3% per hour on standby mode at night. In comparison my IPhone 15 pro max loses about 5% in 8 hours. Photos are acceptable in good daylight especially in RAW mode. The design is absolutely beautiful and it reminds me of Nokia N8

This is actually a crazy deal for the same price as a Galaxy A36. 8/256GB vs 6/128GB, all 3 cameras better than on the Samsung (at least in terms of specifications), aluminum frame, wireless charging!! (extremely rare in the sub €300 segment) with Qi2 support even and from how I understand it built-in magnets like an iPhone, and all that while being infinitely more repairable than all those glued together disposable phones 99% of non-European phone brands put out. A36 has of course some „advantages“. IP67 at the cost of repairability, under display fingerprint sensor might be preferred by some and is definitely more expensive, but it’s an optical one and from what I hear quite a few people actually prefer the side mounted sensor which is less technically advanced but more reliable/faster. And lastly, 3x more major android upgrades, which Samsung can afford to do as a much bigger company with much more sales, because the price for software support is the same no matter if the phone is sold 20‘000 times or 20‘000‘000 times.

But in terms of sharpness it's indeed not the best in class. I see that when I use specific wallpapers that do look great on my Poco X7 but looks full of annoying artefacts on the HMD unit. It doesn't cope well with high definition wallpapers, especially not with anything with gradients. It's ok however, I've had worse.

Even for their folding phones. They use flexible glass instead of plastic. Of course they put a plastic protective layer on top of that. All others do use plastic substrate screens.

atichko, 30 Apr 2025Correct but P-Oled screens are slightly more prone to burn-... moreAll OLEDs today have been shifted from glass substrates to plastic substrates. That allows them to be both cheaper to produce and less fragile. That's why flagship phone and TV OLEDs are cheaper to produce, but unfortunately, repair shops grift from astronomic prices for repairs.
All phone displays today are pOLEDs, and Samsung uses the marketing terms "Super AMOLED" and "Super AMOLED+" for the displays manufactured under license by Wingtech.

Personally I don't think it's a very good panel, it's not the sharpest and it has a bad color shift at angles, some colour are way too boosted, also whites seem to be too bright in comparison to other content being displayed and if you turn down the brightness (so it's more comfortable) the image gets a bit washed out .
I know It's blasphemy to say this but side by side my lcd phone looked better, sorry it just did .

I had the opportunity to buy one at half price so I did. Just because of the design. I feared the worse however as I already had the chance to play with one for a few days shortly after the release. Back then I was so disappointed by the software and the user experience. It brought me back to the day I decided that HMD made Nokia's were no longer for me given the very bad experiences with their last series of phones. In short it was a bit of a gamble but now that I have used for a week (almost) I notice that many issues have been fixed since then. I even got a security update that didn't ruin my phone this time. Also the battery performance is much better than what I experienced back then. Till now, fingers crossed, it's fine. The launcher is still incredibly boring as it still has even less customisation possibilities than a Pixel phone (and that's already not a reference when it comes to that). Solved it by installing my good old Nova launcher.

Current glass substrate screens do not suffer anymore about the issues you mention. To me both are equally great as I prefer any Oled variant above LCD (and all it's variants).

Carol-, 27 Apr 2025Skyline does not have amoled, it has p-oled, (well if we do... moreCurrent "AMOLED" displays are actually p-OLED displays rebranded/marketed, as all current OLED displays use plastic substrates in place of glass substrates to bring the weight down, make production cheaper, improve image reproduction and allow higher refresh rates. That's why older AMOLED displays with glass substrates suffer from artifact issues, and also extremely fragile at the same time. What you've referred to in your earlier comment are glass-based OLEDs.
So if you use both the terms interchangeably, you're referring to the same thing, after all.

All I can imagine is this shady character slowly whistling and turning their head, waiting for your back to be turned, and then trying to plug a usb cable into your phone as you're having a drink at your local café .

Carol-, 27 Apr 2025Skyline does not have amoled, it has p-oled, (well if we do... moreLet's get technical.
All oled's in phones are Amoled's because there all active matrix , but samsung copyrighted the name so you can only advertise you phone as having an Amoled if you have a Samsung sourced display (but the term Amoled is still acceptable in a technological sense) , same for p-oled if your screen is curved then its likely a p-oled (plastic substrate to allow flexibility) but LG copyrighted the p-oled name.
Although what's strange to me is that the Hmd skyline has the same pixel arrangement as a BOE display like the oled (Amoled😆) that was in the honor 50 and I can't find any lg display that ever used that arrangement.

In my experience p-oled was holding better against burn-ins, and shows lesser manufacturing issues. With amoled i often saw uneven things like coloring or shadows, but well maybe i was just very lucky with p-oleds.

Anonymous, 20 Apr 2025Everyone seems to want a security patch every month ,but is... moreYour observation is mostly right, security patch" is a bit of exageration, this is something that could be interpreted as very bad, that all android phones have serious security issues ar the core that are discovered montly and are being patched. From my experience this is not the case, most of the security patches are not actually security patches but more like updating phones DB to recognize new threats, a thing that is actually important for all people with all sorts of knowlege, but very important for the one with lack of knowledge in the filed.
