Dennis.K, 31 Mar 2020I meant did they specifically choose to have an IPS display*Yes, a larger percentage of potential buyers of Honor Flagship series prefer IPS over AMOLED. (This is based on market research done by Honor Marketing team, on a weekly basis.) Those are tech-savvy buyers who have had extensive prior experience with both IPS and AMOLED screens and have a clear understanding of both the pluses and minuses of both type of screens.
There are many reasons why a non-trivial percentage of tech-savvy buyers prefer IPS over AMOLED. A full explanation would require an essay which should be avoided here.

Dennis.K, 31 Mar 2020Your telling me the smount of people with
-iPhone 6-8
-Ip... moreNo, iphone and its buyers have zero relevance here. We are talking specifically about the Honor flagship series (Honor V30 series, Honor 20 series, Honor 30 series, etc). Honor unapologetically selects IPS as the screen of choice, not as a cost-saving measure, but as a response to a specific kind of market demand. There are literally tens of millions of buyers who want IPS options available for flagship phones, because they prefer IPS over any OLED-based screens. This is not a cost-saving measure for the buyers because the cost difference between IPS and AMOLED is nearly zero for commodity panels used here. If you give those buyer the options of P40Pro(AMOLED) and P40Pro(IPS), priced identically, they would choose P40Pro(IPS).
Honor flagship series always use IPS for its higher-priced members, and AMOLED is only offered for lower-priced members. For example:
(1) Honor 20 (Kirin980, IPS), Honor 20 Pro (Kirin980, IPS), Honor 20S (Kirin810, IPS), but much lower-priced Honor 20 Lite (Kirin710, AMOLED).
(2) Honor 30 (Kirin990, IPS), Honor 30 Pro (Kirin990, IPS), Honor 30S (Kirin820, IPS), but much lower-priced Honor 30 Lite (Kirin810, AMOLED).

Dennis.K, 31 Mar 2020Second of all, we dont care about the diaplay typeNo, the buyers do care about the type and the quality of the display and they prefer IPS over AMOLED. Those buyers insist on getting IPS screen over any OLED-based screen (AMOLED or P-OLED).

Honor flagship series are the "GO-TO" Series for those buyers who want a flagship phone that comes with an IPS screen. This is a reflection of certain choice, not a cost-saving measure. And interestingly enough there are tens of millions of such buyers. Honor unapologetically selects IPS as the screen of choice to address the needs of those buyers.

joe nodden, 30 Mar 2020Still? An LCD? I thought OLEDs were cheaper to produce now. Huawei can't do that. only Lenovo
You probably looking for an amoled screen priced below $200? no! amoled are priced at $300+... btw Kirin 820 is like SD845 right now. so you can't just tell anybody to sell cheap amoled, oled where the SoC is already that expensive.. LMAO xD
