Alpha, 30 Sep 2019Okay it seems to work.. After i did about 4 resets. was doi... moreYes, it has to be Google installer v3.0 otherwise it won't work. It took me several attempts too, very annoying. After this I now know I won't do any future updates that the phone suggests.

I've had my Honor 8X max 8.2 Chinese version for over 6 months now and honestly can't fault it. Apart from the September sucurity update which wiped out Google completely. All I then did was remove (All) Google apps completely. Then applied for the 9.1 upgrade through Hi Care ( China ) Within 6 hrs the upgrade arrived and I upgraded to 9.1. once completed simply installed the Google Service Assistant clicked start and in under 5mins all Google apps installed and 100% working including Play store, Gmail, infact every Google app you want. Apparently the Google service assistant also works perfectly on the new Mate 30

If you lose Google apps, then search for GMSanzhuangqi APK and the GMS Installer. Follow instructions. If you don't see the Install then the step before you missed removing a tiny tick mark. A common mistake people are making and wondering why it won't install.

hello, many apps crash after last patch update ( gmail, viber mesenger, youtube, chrome, pi-music....) and no explication from huawei and honor since 4 days messaging!!!!

Tad, 21 Sep 2019For the phone bought straight from China - beware of system... moreYes indeed, I experienced this and it was a real challange to fix this. I had to hard reset the phone, made a backup so not that much of a problem. Downloaded the GMSanzhuangqi APK zipfile, copied it to my phone and follow the steps. Whereas I have done this before, it should be working again but that was not the case. I did everything as I did before, but the Play Store did not open, nor the settings menu showed the Google Services tab. So after the update, this does not work. What needs to be done, is to download Google Installer v3.0, where the zipfile contains Google Installer v2.0. So I had to hard reset the phone yet another time and do this all over again, with v3.0 of the Google Installer. Now it works again, but I am not going to update again when the phone tells there's a new update, so everybody beware. This is the Phone that gives me the most problems, and I cannot recommend it. Now the Huawei Mate30 comes without the Play Store, I foresee more problems when people install Play Store on the device and get updates later on.

For the phone bought straight from China - beware of system upgrade/update ARE-AL008.2.0.167(C00pach01). After upgrading you loose functionality of all applications dependent on Google like Maps, Play Store,, Google Assistant, Gmail, Google Services etc. The only fix of this is to do factory reset and start from scratch loosing all your personal data like pictures, music, films, contacts etc. So better reject this upgrade if you don't want troubles. This is war between China and USA and better not get involved. Next time buy something other than Huawei straight from China.

The June security patch causes issues with google apps. Youtube, PlayStore don’t open. Anyone else having this issues? The rest of the apps work as normal.

Anonymous, 19 Aug 2019How is the display holding up when watching moviesThe display is fine. The notch isn't that big compared to the huge screen. When you use the whole display for movies and videos it's definitely a good view. The screen is so large that it's almost like a tablet.
