Honor Magic Vs in for review

The Honor Magic Vs just made its premiere and we are lucky enough to get one in our office for testing. This being the Chinese unit with non-finalized software we'll only focus on the hardware, but first, let's do an unboxing.

The phone comes with a 66W charger, USB cable, and a case for the rear panel.

The Honor Magic Vs is thinner and lighter than its predecessor thanks to a radically improved hinge design. The phone feels similar to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 in the hand.

Inside, the Magic Vs has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with up to 12GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is just around the corner but the Gen 1 is still quite capable, especially in its Plus form.

Both displays on the Magic Vs are wonderful. Inside, there's a 7.9-inch 2272x1984px OLED with 90Hz refresh rate, while on the outside there's a 6.45-inch 2560x1080px OLED with a faster 120Hz refresh rate.

The lower inner refresh rate puts the Honor Magic Vs at a disadvantage compared its direct rivals, though the difference between 90Hz and 120Hz isn't as drastic as the 60Hz to 90Hz one.

Honor's foldable has a few advantages compared to its competitors. It has a capable imaging setup, which it borrows from the Honor 70 Pro series. It has a 54MP Sony IMX800 main camera, a 50MP ultrawide unit, and an 8MP 3x telephoto shooter. The other key advantage is the 5,000mAh battery, which tops both Xiaomi's foldable and Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold4.

We'll now get on with the actual testing of the Honor Magic Vs as there's a lot to cover.

Huawei and Honor both have a problem with G5 licensing. That's ok with me but I am not sure Honor will go world-wide with 4G. (Would be happy with CN version with 4G.) The Ultra will have a stylus and then the the sparks will fly. Want me to buy...

But, you're talking about slab phones. I don't think you can compare the two. I also know people that keep their phones past 2-3 years because the hardware usually remains intact once you're not reckless. The newer models have be...
