1) either be High spec Gaming with no calling or Low spec with calling. So HP slate 7 ?
2) HP slate 7 spec have lower spec then nexus 7 which is $169:$199 price differently. Seriously ?
3) HP slate 7 with no call capabilities with internal 8Gb have micro slot and low display 170ppi although The spec beat samsung tab2 7.0 and can't beat the nexus 7 powerful spec with Corning gorilla protection.

I like HP products. I also like this HP Slate7. But there are a couple of things which this gadget lack, which:-
(1) it is not able to make phone calls and
(2) the back camera does not have an auto-focus lens which is very important to support a low 3-mp camera.
If HP add these two features in this Slate 7, I am going to buy it.

I am very regular user of HP products from the last several years.I think this is new arrival with outdated specs. Mean while there are so many cell phones have more specs then SLATE 7. The management R&D should think about this product which will face big competition in the market.

It is not the size of the Dog in the Fight
it is the Fight in the Dog.

HP is 'top heavy' in perception of
"COMPETITION", stinks of fore gone conclusions,
answering the concept of fore gone conclusions
with myopic analysis of product specifications.

A "Dead Horse" HP whishes to daily beat
with shame as it trudge down the road
of 'salvation' using antiquated marketeer projection{s} being foscilized.

HP once a Icon within the realm of computer science,
marketing, employee Respect, now will swrill into
the vortex of the East Coast "Smoke Stack Mentalit" as in Buffalo, New York State Automotive Industry.

HP is done a "dog chacing a parked automobile"

explicitly stated on this page that there's no gsm support for this tablet. No mention of CDMA support either. its screen resolution is also outdated more than 2 years at least, I suspect longer. HP is so behind the times. I agree with niceguy's post, HP really doesn't seem to know what exactly to do. Even if its probably the cheapest tablet out from a well-known company, I seriously doubt this is going to be a hot seller.

"Non-removeable battery" I assume this means that, like the Philips toothbrush, you have to buy a new one every year or so?

Held and tried it for around 20 minutes. The one with red backcover attracts attention than the grey one.
Solid performer with Jelly bean OS. Nice and crisp screen with 1024x600 resolution.
Mostly, it has stock apps but with audio on streoid (beats audio).
I'm getting one in adition to my mobile device for mobile reviewing docs as it's quite light and thin. Some people may think of having SIM card would be useful. But mostly, I'm the kind of person who would go for simplicity with a pocket wifi driven by 2,700mAh battery to power my whole day connection of my mobile and notebook. Thin enough to slip into my pocket.
Then it would be enough to connect the Slate 7 to the world later on, once I receive the unit. I reckon it will save the battery consumption too.
Expecting it to arrive soon. Just can't wait.

Sad to HP, it seems they don't know exactly what to do. Killing web os, now making android tablets, for what? dump it later?

They should include auto-focus for the low 3.15 mega pixel camera. They should also have 3G capability which is useful for the users. Most gadgets have such capabilities currently. Without these two items included is a setback.
