Android is a fantastic operating system & with another update coming out at the end of the year the Desire may or maynot get it, but this is a very good phone with some slight problems, HD video ok?? but mic terrible on video & I just with it would have a proper camera button, you can use the hardware joystick button but it does not focus provably sometimes.

Many thanks for all the valid comments about my concerns or doubts about the HTC Desire vs iPhone 4. Ok, my primary needs (when acquiring or buying) a multitouch smartphone would be: connectivity(good web browser with flash support, good synchronize in multimedia & email accounts: including services like facebook, twitter, live messenger, YouTube and Skype service) - good market for free applications - Good calls in reception (mic & speakerphone) - Good audio quality & video media player - Easy to configure settings and of course: easy way to customize & update the OS??... So in terms of bringing together all these features(mentioned above), please I need a valid and accurate respectful opinion: which of the two models(between HTC Desire & iPhone 4), is the best that certainly deserves to be bought-purchased? (I know the HTC Desire use microSD cards up to 32GB - iPhone 4 comes with 32GB internal storage) (I use Itunes 'cause I have iPod Touch 2G) - The HTC Desire can synchronize with iTunes collection? (I know there are many questions in my post, but I want to be sure which of the two models buy. Many Thanks

Weslee, 19 Jul 2010The first 2 months I was very happy with it. Until I update... moreI agree with you totally. I have the same problem with my phone. It has been restored to standard settings from the startup and the problem still persists. It does however seem to be related to a faulty batch of phones as I have two mates at the office that liked my phone and went for the same phone and are not having any problems.

The question is where to from here.

I was initially attracted to the HTC desire as it had great specifications and I am a technologist. This phone has however disappointed me severely as it restarts randomly, even when idle. I have also found myself arriving at clients, taking out my phone to get to the calendar to get the meeting details and the phone just freezes and gets itself into a reboot cycle that takes about 30-40 minutes to complete, each time annoying me with the startup tune. I have then gone online onto various forums and it seems that this is a manufacturers fault but has not been publically acknowledged and a recall being performed. You can google 'HTC desire random restart' and you will see the results. The area around the battery gets really hot and makes me wonder if the phone has a overheating problem.

I have taken my phone in to the service provider and have been informed after two weeks that they will need another 6 weeks.

All I can say is before you are attacted to the great reviews here and the specs, go to google and search for problems on the phone. You will be surprised.

Luv my HTC desire but they do use very very cheap components.

1.The FM Radio indoors by the windows crackels loads, mu Samsung Omnia 1 & 2 & nokia N82 have no problem betting a perfect signal but the Desires is not that good.

2.HD video mic is useless it sounds like mic's did 5 years ago.

                  3. Camera could be improved the Nokia C6 seems to take better photos than the Desire (Nokia are the best camera on a phone u can buy, followed by sony ericsson!!)

Please fix the Radio & mic components for future phones

Ziltoid, 11 Aug 2010I'm undecided between the HTC Desire or iPhone 4. Which one... moreHi there, to answer your question, you need to consider what your own needs are. I own a desire, and I would never look back, however it might not be the right phone for you.
In terms of custimisation, you will always find the open source nature of Android to be far superior. The app store has more apps than Android's market, but there are a massive amount of free apps on Android compared to that of Apple's app store.
Multimedia wise, the HD video recording on the desire is just as good as the Iphone, and if you do not use Itunes, I would say there is no reason to get the Iphone4.
The desire is cheaper (especially on contract) and is avaliable with much cheaper and better tariffs.
If you are looking at these sim free you would also save money on the desire over the IP4, for a product that performs very similarly.
The Android app store is the fastest growing applications market in history, and I feel this will outstrip apple's market in a few years, as it has so many more developers pouring money into it.
However, my bias is heavyly weighted towards the desire.
Im hoping this has helped a little, if you have any more questions, feel free to reply.

SLD, 11 Aug 2010when screen protector film is stick to to screen, then the ... moreThere is no effect upon the screen at all when you use a screen protector. The screen on the desire is sort of scratch proof, but I'm not brave enough to risk it when a screen protector is so cheap.

To test this, get about 5 bits of paper, and place them on a laptop mouse pad - and then see what happens when you use the mouse! it works just as well with the paper there.

                            Hope this helps

I'm undecided between the HTC Desire or iPhone 4. Which one is better in connectivity(web browser experience, mail facebook and more)? - Which one have better size and better multitouch screen? - which one is better about battery performance, what about customize: better iPhone 4 or HTC Desire?? , I know iPhone 4 is a dedicated multimedia smartphone but what about the multimedia experience-quality on HTC Desire running the latest froyo 2.2, I never had a android smartphone (I have some friends with iPhone 4), so please if someone could give a fair opinion, I don´t know yet wich one to buy, little confused. Thanks

Among of a lot of positive opinions, it has an unpardonable problem: after a month of normal use (the phone looks like new), the camera cover lens is scratched, and it makes blury pictures.
At such an expensive device, it should have been made of glass, or it had to be redesigned the phone, because it stays on that lens when is putted on the table on backside.
In my opinion it's a big design failure. It should be replaced for free by HTC vith new back plate with glass lens cover.

joseph symons, 11 Aug 2010Friends... HTC Desire or Nokia N8 ? pls advice ...in my opinion these 2 devices are rather not to be compared. these are 2 different OS, and also NOKIA N8 (at least by specification sheet) is the most powerfull all-in device to hit the market (excluding underclocked CPU with the first sight on specification, however for the Symbian 3 OS it can be fully understood)

in my opinion HTC DESIRE has something to be desired, it is really sexy device, nice about specs. and has a special factor, it has a style, it has a class, it has a soul.

Nokia N8 is the machine fully packed with features, but it looks and probably feels like a machine full of sockets from each side. even it is hard to find anything missing in N8 (in point of view of specification), but it lacks a ''desire'' factor. i feel like a machine mostly than a device.

i would choose a HTC DESIRE then, but the choice ust be yours.
