After owning the HTC Desire 816 for a week or so, I can genuinely say that I am happy with this phone!
I pre-ordered this phone for $366 USD. It entered Indonesian online stores on July 12th. I'd say that I am part of the minority of Indonesians who owns the 816 :D
Build quality:
Despite being plastic, this phone still feels like a solid HTC product. It's actually really light despite its size. Glossy finish on the back, matte finish on the sides and front. The buttons are functional and do the job, although rather flimsy. But this phone has quality hardware within to make up for it.
I got the white version because you can't see the fingerprints on the back. So be wary if you get the other colors! The back is a fingerprint magnet! Also kinda slippery! I solved the slippery glossy back issue by applying a matte case on it. Problem solved.
DISPLAY:
The 5.5" display is beautiful. And because it is 720p instead of 1080p, it actually consumes less battery! 1080p on a small screen is just a waste! I was actually worried that this phone would be too big for... Asian hands. But after an hour or two I got instantly used to it! The colors are vibrant, but the brightness could be better, kinda hard to see outdoors sometimes. But if you turn off power saving mode, its bright enough for outdoors.
PERFORMANCE:
No. Lag. Whatsoever. Kitkat out of the box. The 1.5GB ram probably helped with that, too. Multitasking is no problem. The SENSE 6 UI is nice and smooth. Much cleaner than Samsung's UI in my opinion.
FEATURES:
Camera is pretty good, gets kinda grainy in low light though. But the actual quality of the 13MP main camera is just fantastic. 5MP front cam is also surprisingly good.
The notification LED is a plus for me! Never miss any messages.
The speakers are probably my favorite thing about this phone. It's ridiculously loud and clear for a phone speaker, and you do get a good sense of stereo from it.
STORAGE:
4GB of internal memory (the other 4 gigs are for the OS and default apps) is not enough, but I don't use this phone for gaming, I do that on my 10.1 galaxy note tablet. For a multimedia phone, this is just fantastic. Music, movies, browsing, youtube, all that casual stuff, fantastic. But I've heard that it can handle heavy games as well! MicroSD extension goes up to 128GB, which is insane... I just use a 32GB one though.
BATTERY LIFE:
I wish it could be better... But I get a full day out of it with power saving mode on, so no problems there.
CONCLUSION:
There is currently nothing really better than this phone at it's price, at the moment. This is why I pre-ordered it. I had faith in it and boy I wasn't disappointed! Despite its flaws, you're getting the best of what you're paying for! The pros overshadow the cons of this phone, and I've grown attached to it because it really surprised me of how good it is. Just a reliable device.
If you're looking for an excellent, large yet easy to handle mid-range phone, this is the one.

I like it ..I have bought in 1300 aed its working very nice 1.5gb ram its enough to open any game multi program I have compare with huawei phone which is 2 gb ram but result htc is faster...great camera result

A sales person at croma told me this phone is 4G enabled and we can use 4G once HTC rolls out software updates(Similar to One M8).
Is this true.Please let me know.

hi friends plz tell me about htc desire 816 performance
how much internal storage is available suppose if any apps and games are downloaded from playstore like clean master,temple run uc web,opera mini,angry birds etc., can we move or transfer from internel storage to Ex.sd(Memory Card) card? i read some reviews External Memory Card is only for music and images and there is no default file manager.plz reple me i would like to buy this one today or tomorrow i need correct review,performance how much is cost.one more thing samsung grand 2 or htc desire 816 which one is best?
both are same battery and same OS KIT-KAT 4.4.2
