AnonD-6352, 17 Apr 2011Hey could you please confirm the WiFi death grip issue, ha... moreYes, I just tested. I went to kitchen and make sure it is only 2 bars. When I cover the camera compartment with some gap between my hand and the phone, signal drop to 0 bar. But it still connected and load internet fine. When I then cover the whole camera compartment firmly, the wifi disconnected. To be honest it doesn't concerned me, just like Iphone 4 you need to hold it different way, hehe (hold it both hand in landscape mode with gaps between fingers or hold it one hand on the middle of phone to get right balance and then you have right hand free to scroll the screen or do other stuff) . Anyway, I used 3G more than wifi and I tested 3G is not affected by the way you grap the phone so it's fine to me.

Oh yeah, after using my desire s for 5 days now. I am very happy with the phone. The SLCD has much better details and shaper than my legend(AMOLED). Although, AMOLED colour is richer, I kind of used to SLCD colour now. I was concerned about the SLCD quality as I found a video showing the Xperia Arc screen is more superior compared to Desire S. But, to me the desire S screen is good. It is shaper than my friend's nokia N8 and my old AMOLED phone. The thing I don't like is that the screen is very glossy and difficult to read outdoor. However, at brightness level 75% and with my sunglasses on, it is still readable.
The desire S also fixed the multitouch issue of the last generation android phone. Gaming with the touch screen is fast and responsive.
I noticed the CPU speed could wonder around 245MHz to 1GHz, which I suppose it save battery life. I noticed the standby battery life is pretty good. For eg, I have 18% battery left, I then left it uncharged for a night (10hours) and it still has 11% battery on next morning (only 2G GSM, everything else off). I get average more than a day with everyday use. The 3.7 inch SLCD is quite battery hungry, the battery usage is mainly depends on screen usage. 3.7 inch is perfect for gaming, anything less is too small, anything bigger is too power hungry.
The sense UI has few very good improvement which really convenient and pleasant to use. For eg, quick setting on the notification bar, favourite apps, downloaded apps etc. It also includes some very nice skin/ background wall paper. (I am not a fan of live wallpaper, just try to save battery)
The usb is now on the left side which is good for gaming in landscape mode and charging. The desire s cpu temperature is always about 25-35degree celcius. Experience of playing game while charging is good as the phone wasn't hot. I used number of HTC phones in the pass and I am not comfortable with the heat during charging, especially the HTC diamond.
The 5MP camera is very fast and responsive. The colour and auto focus is quite good. I noticed the picture has more noise compare to N8 but the colour is natural and correct. It may be improvement of the driver otherwise I suspect they use better 5MP camera than their old htc model(also 5MP).
The speakerphone quality is better than my legend. The sound feel more solid and less ear piercing. It may not be loud enough for some of you.
The music player has SRS and other equalizer which is nice. I only got a cheap IEM (sound magic PL20), so I cant say much about the audio quality. To me it make my PL20 sound narrower and colder(no equalizer). I will have to look around for better audio apps.
Overall, happy user and highly recommend the phone.

AnonD-6352, 17 Apr 2011Hey could you please confirm the WiFi death grip issue,
ha... moreYes, it loses some wifi when you hold it like that. So does Inredible S by the way, but not as much.
Anyway, it is only a problem if the wifi signal is weak, and you can always hold it in the bottom part intead of the top part in landscape mode, by simply turning the phone clockwise instead of counter-clockwise from portrait mode. Feels better to hold it like that anyway, because then you are holding the "chin" with your thumb....

Hey could you please confirm the WiFi death grip issue,
have read that when held in landscape, with camera covered, the wifi signal drops, also when placed on the couch ......
If the wifi issue is there, is it bearable??
That would be a deciding factor between desires and inc s for me

brako, 16 Apr 2011hey guys! I'm having the chance to buy either SAMSUNG GALAX... morewell its quite obvious that you should go for HTC Desire S. The reasons being:
1. Better Battery Life (must for todays busy world)
2. Better User Interface(HTC Sence ranks above Touchwiz)
3. Screen More Responsive
4. Fits perfectly In jeans and looks good in hand.
5. Metal Back Gives it a Solid Feel.
6. Latest Android Os in Stock (Gingerbread)
The only Difference between these two phones is
1. SGS has a slightly bigger screen
2. It has a Gigantic Phone Memory (8Gig/16Gig)
3. It has Plastic Back which according to me looks cheap.
4. To me it looks like an I Phone Rip Off (LOL)
5. Has the AMOLED screen which is brilliant but the SLCD on Desire S is equally Good.
Acc to me Go for HTC Desire S. :-)

And just to solve your query if at all I am mistaken then u do have an alternate of installing V Player from the market which supports divx/xvid codec files.
Video Calls can be made through 3G. I am not sure whether Wi-Fi will be able to make a video call or not.
I dont know why GSMA has still not reviewed the HDS. maybe a lot more things will be cleared once we have the review.

Honestly speakerphone is awesome. It uses the big speaker on the front aswell as the one on the back. Call quality has been much better than the old desire but mainly due to size increase. I upgraded today from a desire to a desire s and they have sorted pretty much all the little niggles the first one had. A great buy.
