Android doesn't care what computer you have. All syncing is done wirelessly either Over the Air(OTA) or over your WiFi.
You don't need to connect an Android phone to a computer for almost any reason. Really only if you're hacking your phone or dragging and dropping.

They're going to perform very similarly, but the Nexus One has a second mic for noise cancelling and it will get updates before any other phone does. Google has announced that the Nexus One is getting Android 2.2 first within the next couple weeks.
Plus, if you like SenseUI you can just run an HTC Desire ROM.

If people have battery issues, it's because of an app they're running. If you have your twitter update every 5 minutes, it's going to hurt your battery life but people should know that.

Try going to your carrier's website or googling up their settings information. It shouldn't be hard to find.
fyi I'm running a Desire ROM, but I think the setting location is the same.
