You said you had a folder named “files” on your ROM containing 415.66mb of files.
In the next post you said the total visible storage a.k.a visible ROM is 199.90mb.
So what kind of math can you use to explain how 415.66mb of files can fit in a 199.9mb space?

Mark, 05 Aug 20101. My phone is a HTC HD2, hence my posting my queries on th... moreOk if you have a HD2 it is a LEO.
Why are you calling it blackstone?

    What that is checking as
Total storage: is the visible portion of the ROM. (I say visible portion because the ROM software image is on a hidden partition.)
Total program is the RAM. (RAM is only used by programs when they are running and remember the OS and UI are also programs)
RAM sweeper does what the name says. (It cleans RAM) your problem is you are low on ROM space.
I have a UK unlocked ROM on my HD2 and there is no folder called “Files” which ROM do you have? Or was that folder but there by something you think you installed on the SD.
Do this test before I go on. Power off the phone, take out the SD, power on the phone and see if the programs you installed from marketplace and so on are starting when you click on them. (You must power off first to do this test because when you start a program the entire thing is loaded to RAM so it will still run if you take out the SD after it was already running.)
Depending on what happens after you do this test, I could tell you how best to clean up your ROM.

Anthony, 05 Aug 2010Mark! Your story doesn’t add up. 1. Tip 36 is for a HD2 ... more1. My phone is a HTC HD2, hence my posting my queries on the HD2 page - and as you will see from the link I supllied it changes the Opera:Config on a HD2 to that of a HD Touch so it can supposedly run iPlayer - which was crap, so I have changed the Opera 9 User Prefs back to the original HD2 set up.

      2. Marketplace now gives you the choice of downloading programs to the internal memory or storage card - see for yourself (well it does allow this in the UK, so I trust it will worldwide)
Open Marketplace, select Settings and change "Select Default Install Location" to \Storage Card...

      3. My device (which I repeat is a HTC HD2 for the avoidance of doubt) has the following listed under Settings/Phone Storage:

      Total storage: 199.90MB, Used: 186.99MB, Free: 12.91MB
      Total program: 336.93, Used: 209.48MB, Free: 127.46MB
SD card: Total: 15290.13MB, used: 6624.60, Free: 8665.53

In light of this can anyone explain why my HD2's internal storage is 93% full (!) and what can be done to clear this up and maintain the memory on a regular basis?

Many thanks for your time and patience.

        Your story doesn’t add up.
        1. Tip 36 is for a HD2 a.k.a LEO. As you said, you have a blackstone. That is a HTC HD. It’s not the same phone or the same OS version.
        2. At last check there is no way to install programs from market place to the memory card. It always installs to internal memory. That is how market place was made.
        3. The internal storage a.k.a ROM (not RAM) on the blackstorne is 512mb. So if one folder (named files) is 415.66mb then are you trying to tell me the OS, sense UI, HTC apps and the software ROM image all installed in 60.5mb (seeing that you still have 7% free.)
Ether you are taking me for a fool or you know nothing about any smart phone.
Do you know the difference between RAM, ROM & SD card?
If you do know the difference, explain it to me before I spend any more time on you.
My time is for people that really want help not those that like to play the fool.

I have sorted the "Blackstone" identity crisis - I went into Opera:config and reversed the instructions given on tip #36 on the following link:

            http://www.wmskins.com/blog/37-tips-tricks-for-htc-hd2-leo-things-you-may-not-have-known

However, I'm still concerned over the fact that my phone's storage memory remains 93% full despite the fact that all my apps (incl ones from Marketplace) are on the storage card as are all my mp3s, videos, my browser cache, etc.
Treesize mobile advises that C/Windows has a folder called [files] that is 415.66MB (!) and is full of tiny .dll .png or _manilla files...
I'm running BsB RAM Sweeper but this doesnt remove any unnecessary files - so how do I go about tidying up this huge folder and identifying which files I need to keep or remove..?

I’m not changing to android. This Phone is not my play toy, I need it to sync to outlook on my PC and recently I have gotten Garmin maps for my country. Garmin is the only one that has maps for turn by turn for my country so far.

If I go android it will be when I decide to give-up on winmo altogether. And that depend on the path Microsoft takes with the development of 7 and beyond. If it’s not helpful with my work, I don’t need it. If I wanted portable games and movies I would have gotten a PSP.

Nikolai_D, 05 Aug 2010Hi guys, Ive got a question. My firend have one HD2. He ... moreYes he can change the ROM from French to Russian.
                  1. He will need the SN from a phone that came with Russian by default if he wants the ROM from HTC or he could get it from HTCpedia after becoming a member.
                  2. A phone will not update from French to a Russian ROM till you hack the phones SPL. You can use HSPL to do that.
                  3. Any ROM update has to be sync to the Phone from the PC. You will have to install WMDC or ActiveSync, on your PC depending on your OS.
                  4. Hacking your SPL is a violation of your warranty.

                    Hi guys,

Ive got a question. My firend have one HD2. He says it hangs while calling sometimes. Pretty often actually. I told him that it would be good to update the ROM if its an old version. That can fix it. But then he asked me if it would be possible to change language. So as i see here in comments it is possible to change it. So he has a French language version. It was bought in Brussels/Belgum. But what he wants is a Russian language. So can i just go and download the Russian ROM and install it? Would it work after i do that? Because i see here in comments that there are some operator related settings or something?

                    HAve fun.
                    MVG,
                    Nikolai

Solutions to Freezing & Hanging Problems:

First thing to do is…….. update your ROM to the latest one.

Second thing…..Do not ever install Swype keyboard on your phone. It will really screw up everything. Problems won't go away even after you remove swype or Hard-reset, The only way out is to "Reflash" if you install swype.

Mine is working great after reflashing. No more freezes….at least so far.

Not because the ROM has a country version does not mean it will not work in a next country the HD2 is also a world phone. its quad band for 2G and you can buy it unlocked by paying the full price. Don’t get language and functionality mixed up. I understand what you are saying about the one language per ROM thing. But that does not mean if you buy a phone with an English ROM it will not work in a Spanish country. And which of us uses 3G outside of there home network?

When you are traveling abroad, wouldn’t you rather a phone that can still make calls with a low cell signal, rather than one that has quad band 3G but needs a good signal or a special way to hold it in order for the person on the next side to hear you?

I still do not understand why win mob/htc make diff version phone for diff region. Its so pain in neck if you need to change language. Why don't they learn from iphone & symbian……..just go to setting and change language…..its so simple & make sense. With htc….forget it…..diff rom for diff region. Same shit with PC also…unless you buy windows7/vista Ultimate. This world is our home & we are the citizen of the world. Iphone4 can be used all over the world as it is quad band gprs & 3g as well. I think all phone should be like that. Sick & tired of american version…asian version….european version.

I live in the Caribbean. All we have is hot sun or rain and my phone, friends and wife don’t shot off or restart because of heat. there is one heat issue... if charging, the battery will stop charging and the charge light will flash orange and green until it cools, then it will start to charge again. This can happen if you had it on the dash of a car in hot sun when it was not moving, for example.

For those of you that don’t know, the metal batter cover is used as a heat sync to dissipate heat from the CPU to the air outside, so it is suppose to get hotter the more the CPU is being used. That is how the CPU is cooled in a phone this thin with such a fast CPU and still be functional.

Your wife ROM is 1.48 which you should upgrade but what you did not look at is the region/provider/language code, which is the next 3 numbers.
Eg. Yours is 707 (which is the English Asian version) so an upgrade for your phone would have a newer version number but still have the .707. Region code.
Now look at your wife phone and see what her region/provider code is and try to download the matching one from HTC.
Note: at the top of the main HTC page you can pick countries, some Countries have different region codes ROMs from others.
