When you do get service, to stop data from... moreNo you don’t need to do it if you have unlimited data in your plan or very deep pockets to pay the bill at the end of the month.
The weather, push e-mail, my location which is right under the clock and some 3rd party software can all auto connect to download data and by default do not auto disconnect. Even if you turn data connection off in wireless controls they will turn it back on when they want to update.
If you want to dictate when your data plan is used you have to manually override the auto activation of WAP. That is where the HD2 Tweak comes in.
With WAP disable you will still get mms, sms and (data via Wi-Fi or when you sync with a PC that has internet.)
So far only HD2 tweak will let you turn off WAP but leave MMS on. The rest I have tried turn of both WAP and MMS together.
If you have time go back in these posts to about 2009-11-20 and read to the current date you will learn a lot and get links to good software and tricks.

Go to settings
Wireless controls
Tap the on/off switch for Phone (to turn it off)
You will still be able to use bluetooth & Wi-Fi

that quicklink assit worked..im normally not that thik but in my defense I had only had the device a few minutes...
as for the modem disconnect, yes B2K im on Vodafone but my number is inactive as im porting accross and am told my number will port by tomorrow so i was assuming this is the problem...can you help?

For the quicklinks on the homescreen, click Menu. On the menu, click remove quicklink. An X will appear on all the links. Click the one you want to remove. The X will become red if you do. Click Done. The quicklink is gone.
As for the modem disconnect, are you on Vodafone UK?

Message for Anthony or anyone who can help...My new new HD2 just arrived and im on vodafone. Two things...
1. how do you change the quick link tabs to others or simply delete it...it seems that you cant change them once you assign a quick link (e.g. Opera, contacts, google maps etc) to the home page...please help as this must surely be possible as the most used apps or links today may be not needed at all tomorrow. This cant be non amendable...if so i will start to cry
2. I cant connect to the network yet as my old new will only be ported accross tomorrow...that is a given but i keep getting a message that reads Dialled: "the answering modem has disconnected" to check your modem connections settings and change them if needed, tap settings....Can anyone help...please tell me this is because im not connected to the network yet?

Definitely looking for a foldable version, though - otherwise, I might just as well take my laptop ;)
The small, foldable bluetooth keyboard/phone combo worked like a dream for short trips as a fully-functional laptop replacement and that was one of the reasons why I got the HD2 in the first place.
Not sure why the travel keyboard manufacturers can't get it together - after all, smartphone users are their biggest target group ...

I CAN`T CONNECT TO W-LAN NETWORK.My netbook find the w-lan router fast so is my nokia e55 but the HTC HD2 i bought yesterday doesn`t even find and show it on the screen.I started the wi-fi but nothig appears....i`m going insane with the WM 6.5....PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new SMS update that actually seems to work this time and also speeds up the loading of threaded messages (or at least lets you start typing while they load).
Seems that they may have left some debug code in the new fix since it appends -GSM to messages that are already on the phone (but not new messages).
