Its up on Orange website now. I'm fairly pleased with the pricing as well. Also very happy that Orange do 12month contracts which seem to be rare these days
Only disappointment for me, on a personal level, is my current contract with Voda' doesn't expire till Oct :( I'm jealous of all those that are gonna get their hands on this straight away!!

I think this is lot better than iphone. Watching some demo videos it seems like its UI is as responsive as iphone.Actually it's better than iphone because oe the camera.Lack of enough internal memory is a letdown, but mem card slot is the answer 4 that

Just spoke to Orange again and she reckoned that the phone had failed testing on an incompatibility with the SD Memory. She also claimed that it was back in development for two weeks before testing so at least 3 weeks - however that was sales... I reckon trying to get me to sign up to another phone with her! Adding to her numbers...

Very likely to be getting this phone when it comes out. It would be my first android phone. currently have an n95 8gb
I read below that apparently sms messages can't be saved unless rooted?? I don't get this, is there not an inbox or something that you can go into and re-read text messages that have been stored??? Or do you mean something else; like not being able to save unsent draft messages??

Weirdly it seems that whatever this particular test is, it only takes place once a week, which is why the delivery date keeps getting knocked back by a week at a time. As it stands the first delivery into the UK should be on the 29th of July although going on previous form and the lack of information from HTC themselves the 2nd or 3rd of August is more likely.
Either way I've been playing with a pre-release version of this unit for a while now (which hasn't passed the google test) & it's an awesome bit of kit, no lagging, very responsive touchscreen (as good if not better than iphone!), camera is pretty good but still no flash which is a let down.

I would presume the unbranded/sim free are delayed until after the launch on the networks - I am guessing the "exclusivity" deal means that HTC can't release the phone only versions until it has launched on T-Mobile/Orange... otherwise they are potentially eating the market of their partners (orange/t-mob)

Anyone have an idea about the reason for the delayed release dates? I had hoped the delay was to put the donut android OS onboard but that still seems some way away. I can believe problems with stability of network tweaks to the OS but the sim-free/unbranded phones have also been delayed. Release is on 2nd August according to expansys and 15th August according to amazon. Can't believe there's been no info from HTC!

As far as I am aware Orange put their own software onto phones, sometimes stripping off existing software, sometimes just adding their own. I have heard they add their own in order to link it to extra paid for services...
Anyway I belive it is the testing of the stability of the handset with this software on that has been the problem - much the same as the N97.
I hope you are right and it is out this week as I have it on pre-order from Orange (through a 3rd party) and can't wait to get my hands on it - I was gutted when I heard Orange tell me it could be mid-late August or after.

@hutchie Do you know what they test on it? I don't see how it could have failed testing, as I went into the Orange Store on Saturday, and the guy in there showed me the pricing for it, and he even let me see the dummy phone that was in the back ready for the launch. He said it should be released this week as well? Hmmm...

I spoke to Orange on Friday and was told that the Hero had failed testing and was going back for more, it was mentioned that it may not come out on Orange at all if it doesn't pass the testing...
