this phone is so unique...browses internet fine. does everything fine...i've had it for 3 years now. dropped it atleast a thousand times...AND STILL everything works perfectly no issues at all...its awwsome.

maxim, 20 Jan 2013whats its alternatives, i m planning to buy itI bought this as a hand-me-down from a friend in October 2010 and it's fine - it clearly suffers from a lack of processor speed and recent app upgrades mean some things just won't work on it. I've now passed in on to my wife, who will use it for web searches as well as phone/text, so it'll suit her just fine. Using that spec she'll not get through the battery in a week despite it now being 3rd hand!
I pinched an old HTC Desire from my dad this weekend and although that phone is now 3 years old it is noticeably faster than the Hero, you can manually upgrade it to Gingerbread (2.3) so I think for someone like me who isn't cutting edge, it'll work for everything from watching live TV downwards.

my htc hero phone has been heating anytime i browse or use any application in the phone...pls tel me what to do to stop it from heating

This propably one of the worst android phones I've ever seen. I've been using it since launch and it has had problems since day one. Installing Cyanogenmod fixes a lot of the problems and I highly recommend you find out how to do so if you have one of these.

I cant connect my htc hero to my gmail accounts and because of that,i cant access the apps market but am able to browse alright..the message i always get is "your phone cannot connect to the google server"

grrr. really unhappy with this, it's impossible to type on this, it often frozes, the battery life is terrible and takes a few hours to charge!! it's so slow as well. And my wifi is not working, it doesn't scan for the networks, even though it used to work. now my touch screen stopped working completly and i can't even unlock it.
So gutted because I was really excited about this phone before I got it :(
