Wow. The phone industry has been revolutionized for the last years. Though HTC Hero, Palm Pre are incredible devices this revolution was first started by the iPhone. I sometimes feel the history repeats again. While Apple introduced the first personal computer 90% of people ended having a PC(+windows). Will iPhone have the same faith? BTW, I own an 3GS :)

thanks Sam for answering my question. When you say 2g, do you mean EDGE ? Or if the phone does not have 3g, it automaticaly switch to EDGE?

      thanks again.

zeezy f, 15 Aug 2009is this phone slow day to day use? No, not for day to day use. Only if you've left a lot of apps running in the background, but there is an app called Taskiller for that

There can be a lag switching from screen to screen, but its not as bad as some reviews make out. Its not as smooth as the iphone or other devices, but its really not that big a deal. The lag issue is somewhat exaggerated imo

Sorry I forgot to say that the digital compass that it has built in can NOT be used in conjunction with google maps so u can NOT know which direction you are facing, but in the iphone 3gs if u click the "locate me" icon twice it will enable the compass and lets you know which direction u r facing, that to me is a mistake android has made.

                  Dear All
I got the phone today on T Mobile UK. I have an iPhone 3GS too. Comparing both each has its ups and downs. It took me a lot of time to decide to get the htc hero, and i did play with it a few times before i made up my mind today and went to a t mobile shop and got it.

So what do i think about it? well, honestly saying a little confused and somewhat disappointed. If u have used the iPhone before and then u use this u will see the differnce. build quality is OK, screen is nice and responsive to touch (but not as much as the iphone 3GS), the sense UI is nice, the app store is somewhat disappointing because e.g. you can not see screen shots of the application that u want to buy, not like the iphone's app store where u can see screenshots of the app.
It has carshed on me once till now when i was trying to add a friend in my contacts as a favourite, haven't got a clue why!?
I will use the phone more for a few days before i make my final desicion as to keep it or return it and cancel the contract.
I think if google built the phone and supplied the android software it could have been better, but giving the software to htc, samsung, sony ericsson..etc is not as successful as Apple because they built the phone and the software.
So i will update my review in the next few days, but for now, i will give it 7 starts out of 10.
Thank You for reading my short review.

No there is no big difference in 2g and 3g..just minor speed difference.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2009ordered htc hero, but then I found out radiation level is 1... morepeople wanted internal aerials so its their fault about sar levels,,also if we had aerials at least the reception would go up and battery life but oh no people dont get a choice cause fashion is fashion..So thats clamshells with aerials GONE and they are the only type that look like mobiles instead of these constant monoblocks on show now..fed up plus with clamshell at leasrt it feels like your speaking into something rather than fresh air..

Anonymous, 14 Aug 2009cant come close to the mighty iphone....This phone actually has exceeded the iphone in many ways. I have seen many comparisons of both phones and I am very keen on how the htc hero has adapted with the needs of the user and how quickly programs such as twitter and facebook for example can be updated constantly informing the user of new mail and so forth, where as the iphone is touch based with no real time updates, and limiting the user by pressing the icon for accessing the program. Kudos to HTC for such a brave effort, i only hope the iphone can follow suite hopefully soon as it's UI hasn't changed ever since it first came out....

What i find really confusing (and bad) about the android store is the fact you can't filter by phone-features. Especially now more android phones are coming. I've downloaded some apps that wouldnt work correctly because they were made for the G1 and assumed there was a keyboard present. This will only get worse once more different devices with different specs get released.
