My Hero came with a 2GB micro sd card, this has the htc sync application on it.

If any of you have any questions... fire away.

Apart from that, is the 512MB internal storage going to be enough for apps? Because I have no knowledge of how to root the ROM and don't wanna risk my phone.

For the guys who already have it... is the screen really smudge-resistant? They say it is oleophobic (oil/finger-print repelling) but the one I played with at Orange shop was "loving" my finger prints.

I did not get a word of it... and assume you need a computer with Linux as the OS. Thats a bit of a shame that we cannot install apps onto the SD card!! Will this problem be resolved with future OS updates?

However, the internal memory is 512MB (not 288MB; that's the RAM)... so I think still plenty of space for the apps.

Is it true that you can only save apps internally and not on the SD card?

Bearing this in mind, what size is the average android app? This will be my first android phone so I'm not too familiar with this OS or its apps

How far will the internal 288mb memory get you?

                        1) ability to buy from third party sellers like CPW, hence more colour options
                        2) unlocked phone status
                        3) no spoiling of the phone with operator logos

So, do you think 500MB will get used up too quickly on a moderate internet use?

Hi all current users of this phone! please comment on the pros and cons of the colour of your phone. I can understand you chose the one particular colour because you liked it... but it'd be nice if you comment on it from both negative and positive aspects. Cheers.

Some of the widgets do require regular updates so will use data. I went with T-Mobile as their data usage is 3Gb rather than Oranges paltry 500Mb. T-mobile is an 18 month contract rather than Oranges 24 and it works out cheaper as well. Maybe I'm being think but after doing a little research I don't understand why anybody would find Orange so compelling.

I'd also considered the Toshiba but there are reports that even with the Snapdragon processor it struggles. It's Windows Mobile which I'm not keen on either. As for Sony, I haven't heard anything about when their phone is out. It does sound an interesting phone but with what I've been reading about their production problems and financial position I'm not holding out much hope for them. There will always be something better coming along but there comes a point when you have to make a decision. I'm really happy with the Hero. Its performance is just fine. If you're going to wait there's also Motorola about to bring out and Android phone. I'm not sure if it'll just have the standard flavour of Android though. Whatever you get be sure to give some feedback here as I found it quite useful in making my decision.

i was going to get this phone but the only that changed my mind was CPU and the fact that phones with more powerful CPUs (toshiba phone, SE Rachael) are coming out, i feel as though i wont be getting the best out of this phone.

Go into the contact details then click on the menu button. Choose the 'more' option and you will see 'save to sim'.

As for the screen in bright sunlight it's Ok. I compared it with my friends iPhone 3G and it seems on a par with that. As an aside, he was looking for the name of an artist who did a particular song and started to search with his phone. Out of interest I tried the same thing and was able to get the answer quicker with the Hero. Proof positive it's a better phone. Only joking. One thing I'm trying to work out is how to create albums for photographs I copy over onto the phone. In terms of images I tried, jpg, gif, png, animated gif and bmp and they all display just fine. I also copied over an mp4 file and it played perfectly.
