NESS, 22 Jul 2009Hi Everyone I have a question about HTC Magic and T-Mobi... moreThe Major difference between your HTC touch phone and HTC magic : they are not running the same operating system, your touch phone runs Windows Mobile which is developed by Microsoft but the magic phone runs the Android OS which is developed by Google but basically it depends on your preferences .......

Select contact from phonebook, press a little longer and options will pop up,scroll down then select "send contact via sms" option and that's it.

I got one of these to replace my E90. Odd choice I know but I hated the E90. I was expecting to use this along side my trusty BB Bold... Now the bold is in the drawer and the Magic is at the centre of my life. I cant say this phone is perfect, but its damn close. I need a phone to be good for business and pleasure and this mixes the too very well. There are things that bug me, like not being able to send contacts from my address book to another phone and a few other minor gripes. What makes it work so well is the number of apps (mostly) free you can add. This allows to to customise the phone like never before. It has been said and its true, no android phone is identical to another. One point I should make very clear is, to get the best from this phone you need a Gmail account. I have been a Gmail fan for a long time so it was a "no brainer" for me. If you do not use Gmail YOU SHOULD, it takes a while to get into lables etc, but once you have you will NEVER go back. If that's not enough then look at calendars, documents latitude etc.

I've had a fair few different handsets, and I used to work as a Technical Support Rep for Optus (telecomms network in Australia), so I understand phones technically, and have been exposed to a lot of different handsets, as well as handset manufacturers.
I've never seen anything behave like the Android phone, it's really where technology is heading I believe. And with this kind of firmware, they'll just keep coming out with updates.
Another good feature is the micro-usb also charges the phone too, so I take my usb cable with me to work. The headphones also go through the micro-usb, but they provide a micro-usb to 3.5mm jack connector in the box anyway, so you can use your fav. headphones.

Is there any major difference between this two phones?

I bought this phone a week ago and I do NOT regret it. Previously I trialed an LG KM900 Arena, and the UI was very choppy and laggy, not to mention the amount of freezes in the first day alone. Swapped the Arena for a nokia e71, and that had software issues too. Sometimes when you pressed menu, nothing would happen, and you would have to power the phone off/on to reset. Sometimes I had to do this multiple times in the one day.
But HTC Magic is EXCELLENT. Very fast and responsive UI, good how you can use the touch qwerty keypad in landscape mode - typing is actually quite fast! Excellent how you can also use the trackball to scroll through so you don't always have to use the touchscreen feature. Have not had to reset this phone at all - clearly Android is very solid! When I powered the phone on for the first time, I received a message "updates available, install?" so I didn't even have to LOOK for software updates, this has FOTA.
With the connection straight to my gmail, even when I add calendar events in the phone, they will also appear in my calendar when I log into gmail on my computer.
Notifications are also good - small LED flahes at the top if you have a missed call or message. Track ball will initially flash when someone calls.
Market is where you can download Android apps. Most are free. I have quite a lot of apps as well as games.
Battery life is excellent also - charged once every 2 days, even with heavy usage like mp3 player, calls, apps, etc.
I will only buy Android phones from now on. Very reliable and solid.
My opinion? HTC Magic Android is the "iPhone Killer"

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2009this device offering the Android OS base...can anybody elab... moreAndroid is a mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel. It was initially developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.
The unveiling of the Android platform on 5 November 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 48 hardware, software, and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.Google released most of the Android code under the Apache License, a free-software and open source license. In July 2005, Google acquired Android, Inc., a small startup company based in Palo Alto, California, USA. Android's co-founders who went to work at Google included Andy Rubin (co-founder of Danger), Rich Miner (co-founder of Wildfire Communications, Inc.), Nick Sears (once VP at T-Mobile[11]), and Chris White (headed design and interface development at WebTV). At the time, little was known about the functions of Android, Inc. other than that they made software for mobile phones. This began rumors that Google was planning to enter the mobile phone market, although it was unclear what function it might perform in that market.
At Google, the team, led by Rubin, developed a mobile device platform powered by the Linux kernel which they marketed to handset makers and carriers on the premise of providing a flexible, upgradeable system.[citation needed] It was reported that Google had already lined up a series of hardware component and software partners and signaled to carriers that it was open to various degrees of cooperation on their part.
More speculation that Google would be entering the mobile-phone market came in December 2006. Reports from the BBC and The Wall Street Journal noted that Google wanted its search and applications on mobile phones and it was working hard to deliver that. Print and online media outlets soon reported rumors that Google was developing a Google-branded handset. More speculation followed reporting that as Google was defining technical specifications, it was showing prototypes to cell phone manufacturers and network operators. As many as 30 prototype phones were reported to be operating "in the wild."Although Android is an open-source product, some development has been continuing in a private development branch. In order to bring this software into public view, a read-only mirror branch has been created, known as cupcake. Cupcake is commonly misunderstood as the title of an actual update, but as stated on Google's development website: "cupcake is still very much a work in progress. It is a development branch, not a release." Notable changes to the Android software that will be introduced in cupcake include changes to the download manager, the framework, Bluetooth, the system software, radio and telephony, developer tools, the build system and several applications, as well as a number of bug fixes.
On 30 April 2009, the official 1.5 update for Android was released There are several new features and UI updates included in the 1.5 update:
Ability to record and watch videos with the camcorder mode
Uploading videos to YouTube and pictures to Picasa directly from the phone
A new soft keyboard with an "Autocomplete" feature
Ability to automatically connect to a Bluetooth headset within a certain distance
New widgets and folders that can populate the desktop
                                  Animations between screens
Expanded ability of Copy and paste to include web pages
In September 2007, InformationWeek covered an Evalueserve study reporting that Google had filed several patent applications in the area of mobile telephony.
