M9+ is just bigger and a better camera, but the battery stays the same, so therefore the battery life becomes worse, the same battery on a bigger brother of the M9.
I would recommend getting the M9 or the 10 if you are a HTC person.
Also, check out the new Sony Xperia phones, they seem pretty decent ;)

I updated my M9 to Nougat a few day before, there's many little bugs and glitches, one of them i hate most is on the lock screen, the shortcut icons are extremely big, it is really pissing me off, i have tried to restart the phone many time, doesnt go away,

Thanks to nougat so far so good. No more heat. Just update mine via OTA and so far so good it also fast now. My M9 become a great phone now thanks nougat , I haven't notice any probs so far. Go update yours without any hard reset. Mine works so smooth again thank you nougat. I feel I have a new phone at hand. Thanks nougat.
