Also one more thing… Bluetooth is available only under Vista not in PDA modem, so how can you connect a Bluetooth headset in PDA modem to be able to dial ?

I have just received my Shift and it appears that the manual does not have any section which talks about how to make a phone/voice call with it. Therefore, for those of you who have been able to make and receive a call with the shift, could you please send the procedures on how you were able to do it, especially ken who has really done a lot of testing with the Shift? ok at http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=600 it's written: "Card Slots 1.8/3V USIM/SIM card slot..." so it should have a phone option, also on a preview watched by me at http://www.zazz.bg/play:9e0cbe8c it says that you can talk on it ... (its better by bluetooth
                  hadsfree - 0.8kg for a hand phone it's way too much ;P )

Jim A--are you sure you made a call?? Everyone and all websites are saying the Shift does not have the phone function. Can you post a video showing yourself making a call?

Just got my Shift this week and it is awesome. For those saying it's not a phone, well after making my first call I can confirm it is. Phone, SMS messaging, 3G video call, and of course the SIM works as a modem for dial-up internet in Vista seamlessly. So, it's a mobile tablet with fully-featured telephony as well as data.
That being said, anyone buying this to use as a primary phone is an idiot. Relying on a bluetooth headset with no capability to use it as a phone when your headset battery is dead is just not viable.
What it is great at is a very small lightweight laptop to take on the road - seamless email and internet access via either wired, wireless or dial-up.
A fully functioned O/S to allow you to edit documents on the go and VGA out for presentations makes it the perfect portable for road-warriors like me.
USB and SD expandability - not tried this yet but ReadyBoost in Vista in theory allows you to use USB or SD as additional RAM for performance gains - I will come back and report if I get this working.
The screen is great - been re-watching Heroes and although the speakers are a little tinny they are no more so than a standard laptop, and fine with headphones.
Tablet functions are great as expected. I've been happily emailing and IM'ing via the tablet / pen interface which is much more immediate and satisfying. The handwriting recognition is pretty astounding it must be said. I have trouble getting my wife to understand my spider-scrawl but Vista has proven about 99.55% accurate without my even finishing all of the handwriting tests.
The only negative I would say is the thumb-pad mouse which is not very accurate, but a relatively small complaint as i'm mostly using it as a tablet, and of course it fully supports my external USB/Bluetooth mouse which is fine.
The keyboard is also not great - but usable for short periods and again works fine with my fold-out bluetooth keyboard.
The thumbprint security device is also excellent - not only saves you having to re-type complicated passwords, but also is built right into the OS allowing you to encrypt individual files!
All in all it's a great device - but for the job it's intended for, which is as a very lightweight laptop replacement or for those specifically requiring tablet functionality.
I would never buy this for personal use - it's for work only and fills the gap perfectly between my very heavyweight HP NC8430, and my HTC TytnII.

Yes is running Vista, and is very well integrated with SNAPvue.. I have a feeling if os is replaced the system will not function properly.
But is actually running very smooth… very well put together.
The GSM is almost always on, I am waiting to see the charges from T-Mobile…
The device is kind a heavy, but comes with a beautiful leather caring case…

I have just received my SHIFT today.
Looks great, but no VOICE CALL capability.
In SnapVUE mode, under contacts, if you select one, you get the option to CALL !!! go figure, but will not dial.
Overall looks really good, very solid, plastic enclosure. Has a VGA output connector, and one USB….
Just playing with the device in 20 minutes the battery dropped to 75%...

Personally I think OQO2 is a better system, and has capability for Verizon or ATT…

I have played with this device, it has NO phone call functionality. You use the sim for data transfer.
