TyTN is not a smartphone, it's a PocketPC (PPC). If you don't now the difference, Google it.

Thats SA? I would recommend the tytn if you are a smartphone fan but if you're not then I would go for the N95

battery life is great! two days with bluetooth always on and using wi-fi 3x to check mail and IM for a bit.

That price seems really high, if you were to buy it unlocked with no plan it would be about $600, but if you are a serious user go for it.

I think this is a wonderful phone. Being able to access my various mail accounts, internet, and my work servers with VPN connectivity and Terminal Services absolutely great. Bluetooth, IR, WiFi, its all there if you want connectivity, this is the phone for you.
The only problem is that I can't seem to sync my contacts with Office 2007, even after upgrading to Active Sync 4.5 Microsoft, help ... Seems asif a lot of people have this problem.
All in all this is a great phone, the best I have ever owned.

hey i live in mississauga(ontario, canada) and im thinking about buying this phone on a 3 year plan with rogers which will cost me 399.99. is this a good phone to buy? i really like it but i need one that has exceptional reception. thank you

FOR SOUTH AFRICANS USING TYTN.
IF PHONE IS DROPPING CALLS OR HAS POOR RECEPTION.
For the TyTN
1. Click on Start
2. Go to Settings
3. Choose the Phone icon
4. Now choose the band tab at the bottom of the screen
5. Now change the select your network type box to GSM
6. Change the Select your GSM/UMTS band to GSM (900+1800)+UMTS(2100)

Hello,
Has anyone here been able to sync this phone with iSync on a powerPC mac? Not intel macs. Useing iSync. This will be the deciding factor for me wheather I buy it or not.

I have one. Very nice PDA ...BUT battery life SUX! I need to charge it at least once a day and when I use bluetooth ...twice a day! Anyone else have similar problems? Also I can't new numbers to the contacts without calling them first. E.g. Someone calls me from a new number, when the call is ended I want to save that number but it will only save if I dial the number, end the call immediately and then save it to contacts.
Are there any windows updates available for this phone?
How long is the battery supposed to last you?

Apparently the Rogers has minimized memory to 90mb instead of it's original 128mb of ROM. As usual I wouldn't be surprised if Rogers had decided to minimize other aspects of the phone. On top of that it's $399 with a 3 year term including signing up for email and voice packages which range from $45-$100. A little over the top. If you decide to upgrade the phone to WM6, it has to be unlocked which of course it is not!!! That's more trouble ahead. It cost money to unlock it properly and WM6 has yet to become accessible to the public.

nice phone excellent keyboard battery life good for about three days (8 hrs per day bluetooth use/handsfree) but and big but- is that it keeps freezing wont let u come off standby only solution is to take out and replace battery and turn on again also keep getting vcalplug.exe execution error, comiing up on screen dont know if its related

Nice phone/pda, soon will have free updates to Windows Mobile 6 IF you buy the HTC Tytn (not branded). Also would like to note that the HTC Tytn does NOT have Handwriting recognition! I haven't found many errors in it, and the errors I do find in it, are because of windows mobile, so any mobile you buy that had windows mobile will have this. Still, Windows mobile is the one you need!

The TyTN all the flash.Whoopdee do.
What a waste of time. Dropped calls, poor voice quality, battery life is crap, freezes way to often & just goes into flight mode on it's own, so missing calls without your knowledge. Should have stuck with my nokia until the E90 was launched. Wouildn't recommend this phone to anybody. Big mistake!!!!!

There was also speculation on the 3G network. The 8525 apparently only works with Cingular 3G at 1900. I'm from Toronto Canada. The phones will be used here. Our Rogers provider hasn't quite mastered the video calling but is apparently suppose to come around some time soon.
I was also offered the softbank x01ht as an alternate choice as it's cheaper. But I'm turned off by the foreign writing on the keyboard. Is there a difference in performance between this and the Tytn. Thank you for responding to my first question.

The differences are minor. You are essentially getting the exact same phone if you choose the Cingular 8525 over the TyTN - minus the front camera. Other than that, the 8525 also has a few tidbits of software/settings pre-loaded, where the TyTN requires that you'd have to set up a few things on your own (which is very simple).
IMO, it's well worth the price savings if you can get the Cingular branded version, unless you're bent on using video call...
